Let's get one thing clear again for those who follow this thread religiously, and let's go through from start, one more time.
I will not be discussing sidearms, LMG, Snipers, DMRs, etc
Indian Army -
* Standard issue assault rifle for basic infantry/Reserve( not territorial army) - I have come to the conclusion that anything/everything that replaces shitty insas as our standard issue assault rifle, I am up for it. Given the fact that the rifle is given room for future upgrades. Best choice as we speak is AK-203/15/19.
*Carbines for basic infantry/military police/armoured corps/artilery/engineers/army air defence/aviation corps, etc - I know for a fact that 70,000 carbines will never be sufficient for our needs, but if we get complete ToT we will produce it in our country. Prefered Carbines for our needs are CAR 816, Sig 516, IWI arad, any other foreign vendor giving ToT
* Frontline Troops - Already procured 140,000 Sig 716, but can not cover all troops since there are more than 140,000 troops, hence we need indigenous battle rifle/patrol rifle to replace insas and old AKs
These are the three main infantry categories we have in IA, and I have not covered special forces and shock troops such as Ghataks since these need special procuments and can't be mixed with ordinary infantry troops.
Another questions I have seen people here ask, what will happen to discarded insas and old AKs, well I think it will be in storage/mothballed. In my opinion old AKs should still be used by certain forces like Rashtriya Rifles who got used to using these rifles, if not better give to 3rd players such as state police forces, state forest reserves, village defence forces, etc. But insas should be fully discarded all together.
