the first P15B's status in MDL about one month ago(Jan 23 ,2015)...
--------------
the MDL's so called "Modular construction method" seems to be at
primary stage...we might be able to see the
true modern 'Modular construction method' during the second P15B vessel construction since the MDL's module assembly workshop hadn't been finished yet when the first P15B began the building progress in 2013...so far the first P15B has been on the slipway for more than 16 months(the slipway assembly phase began earlier than the formal Keel laying ceremony in Oct 2013 ) and it would take another a couple of months to be launched..
nowadays, the '
unit construction method' or '
super block method of hull construction' should be most advanced shipbuilding method which could be seen during the construction of Royal Navy Elizabeth II carrier, the French Mistral-class for Russian Navy and Spain built Canberra class of Royal Australian Navy...etc...
for example,a 6000 ton's class Destroyer could be built in three "Units" or "Super Blocks" and then these 'blocks' were moved to the Slipway or Dry Dock for the final assembly. so the time of the
Slipway assembly phase could be reduced to about
6-8 months. the outfit phase after the launch would take another 18 months including the sea trials...
the one of the three 'super hull blocks' of a destroyer under construction...the rest are the modules of the superstructure which would be hoisted onto the assembled hull blocks...
