India's MDL Details Impending Deliveries, Confirms Plans For Project-17B Frigates

MDL stated to investors in August that the Navy is considering a follow-on order of Project-17A frigates, confirming an Overt Defense scoop in July.

Approximately 7-8 frigates. It will keep MDL and GRSE busy with the P 17B and NGC till the late 2020s by which time focus will be on the NGD and NGF.

Bear in mind that the Brahmaputra Class and Batch 1 Talwar Class will be 30+ years old in the early 2030s and will be heading for retirement.

Ya'll Nibbiars The Bhamaputra will be retired by 2030s. But the tawlar class will be upgraded and wilp probarbly serve till the end of the 30s.

The P-17B, commonly referred to as ‘P-17A repeat order’ will feature 8 ships rather than the previously mentioned 7. The project is likely to be divided between the two shipyards similar to P-17A, presumably 4 hulls each. The project is estimated to cost around 60,000cr for the 8 ships compared to 45,000cr for 7 ships under P-17A, main reason sighted is inflation and new systems.

Gentleman, only the above mentioned details are out in public domain, rest is still a mystery. First we need to commission the 1st P-17A but for P-17B it is still a very long way to go.
