Appeal for peace in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Sept 7 – Under the chairmanship of Dr M Ariz Ahammed, Commissioner of Hills and Barak Valley, a meeting on solidarity and integration was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, here on Thursday.
Representatives of various ethnic groups of Dima Hasao district such as the Indigenous Peoples' Forum, Jeme Council, Church Elders, executive members and members of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, public leaders and government officials participated in the meeting. The meeting appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the district and ignore rumours spread by anti-social elements.
Dr Ariz Ahammed, Commissioner of Hills and Barak Valley, appealed to all sections of people to work collectively for peace and said that peace is the basic requirement for development. Public leaders like Dethang Naiding, president, Jadikhe Naisho Hosom, Athong Lienthang, president, Indigenous People's Forum, S Jeme from Jeme Council forwarded some suggestions for maintaining peace and harmony among the people living in Dima Hasao.
Earlier, Dilip Barthakur, Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, delivered the welcome address and Barun Bhuyan, Principal Secretary, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, offered the vote of thanks.
