Sig 716i second batch order likely placed. Deals under Rs 1000 cr only need DAC permission.LoC units followed by LAC. I dont think RR will be given priority as the utility of a SAW by RR is pretty low..
Sig 716 second batch has been cleared by DAC. Orders will be placed this year, or maybe have already been, under the veil.
I really hope AK-203 us scrapped. The whole 7.62*39mm idea needs to be thrown out the window. It is a bad idea for a variety of reasons.
But what is imperative is manufacturing special 7.62 NATO ammo loads for the Sig. Machine gun load that OFB makes won't do. Something like the M80A1 would be welcome. Or even a light projectile load. We also imported ammo along with Sig-716s. This cannot continue.
https://www.indiatoday.in/india-tod...on-a-new-hunt-for-carbines-1768612-2021-02-12The earlier deal was questioned by senior defence ministry officials on two grounds—i) the carbines were costlier than the US-made SiG 716 assault rifles also imported under the FTP last year for over Rs 700 crore;
https://thewire.in/security/india-russian-defence-deals-jeopardythe import of a repeat import order for 72,400 assault rifles from the US-based Sig Sauer in early 2019 and late 2020, to meet the IA’s urgent operational needs, was considerably cheaper.
The below article concurs with Sig Sauer 72,000 Sig 716i deal signing in December, 2020 and induction of Negev LMG in January, 2021.
