Screw it. That thing is going nowhere. Good luck hitting anything beyond 70m. The bullet won't even be stabilized in that barrel. One of the reasons why 7.62*39 is a trash caliber.
no 762x39 works better in short barrel rifles than 5.56 or 5.45, heavier bullets work better in shorter barrels hence the 3000blackout a 7.62cal pill in a 5.56 casing.

Uhh, .300BLK was made specifically because .30 Soviet doesn't work with shorter barrels. Sure, it'll have a decent enough muzzle velocity (around 2000), but the bullet will not be stabilised. Which means it will be even more susceptible to wind and humidity than usual (which is sayin a lot, 7.62 is a high drag bullet and even slightest wind will push it off target) pushing the effective range down to 60-70m in windy or humid areas. It may work okay in perfect conditions, and even there, 100-150m range.

In contrast, you can be accurate and powerful enough to incapacitate out to 300m with the 5.56 ot of a 10.5" barrel.

you are wrong, the 7.62x39 can be stabilized from a krinkov barrel. It would work far better than 5.45.
i suggest do some research.

In terms of ballistic performance? Yeah, that isn't happening. A Krink in 5.45 can be lethal out to 300m (AKS-74U). The 7.62mm one, not more than 100m. Within that range, it does its job well enough. Its terminal energy will be close to that of a bullet from an AKM from 200m at the muzzle. But due to the very short dwell time and short barrel, it loses a ton of energy fast.

Ever wonder why no one, not even Russian or Eastern European SOFs use 7.62mm AKs with less than 14" barrels?

Plus, using an AK without the full length gas block is a bad idea, regardless of the caliber.

That face shield is as jugaad as it gets, I understand the need for it but surely they can come up with something more refined ?

+ it’s horrific seeing these guys with such junk primary weapons to this day

++ keep seeing ACHs with integrated comns but comns removed, what’s that about?

What the fcuk is up with those pouches  dunno who's idea to have velcro on pouches themselves...but really loving that low-vis IA insignia patch.

Really wish IA infantry entirely does away with bright colours on epaulettes etc. for field uniforms. Madras Regmt for example has bright red:

@abingdonboy
The IA keeps saying every few years that they want to adopt low vis insignia and likely want to move from epaulettes to ranks on the chest like the US/U.K. and Pakis

Such sweeping changes seem to be constantly stalled pending trails/assessments

++ I remember a COAS from a few years back instituted low vis insignia only in forward bases, the moment he left they reverted back to these flashy ones

Blows my mind that the IA has been fighting in COIN for this long and still can’t see the utility in low vis

Deliveries start this month, last I heard. They may be delayed by a month or two due to covid, but we'll have the first batch by March, for sure.
Who will they be going to first? RR? LOC units ( like the 716s)?

IA needs to keep the momentum up, they need to order the second batch of 716s this year and more Negevs to ensure that serious modernisation takes place and doesn’t create a 2 tiered force

AK203 and all those other make in India megadeals seem indefinitely stalled, the only hope remains off the shelf gtg deals

LoC units followed by LAC. I dont think RR will be given priority as the utility of a SAW by RR is pretty low..

Sig 716 second batch has been cleared by DAC. Orders will be placed this year, or maybe have already been, under the veil.

I really hope AK-203 us scrapped. The whole 7.62*39mm idea needs to be thrown out the window. It is a bad idea for a variety of reasons.

But what is imperative is manufacturing special 7.62 NATO ammo loads for the Sig. Machine gun load that OFB makes won't do. Something like the M80A1 would be welcome. Or even a light projectile load. We also imported ammo along with Sig-716s. This cannot continue.
