Par Abhi bhi bahut kaam karna Baaki haiThese upgrades in gear were simply not possible under the Nehru/Ghandi Congress. Thank god Modi actually cares about defending the nation.

Someone had posted in PSU thread that ARDE is developing a light machine gun.Indian Army's new 7.62x51 mm IWI Negev LMG.
Probability of hiting a target is increases with number of bullets fire on it. I know that its not cheap to operate and you too should know that, many countries are using miniguns. Understand mr bleh bleh bleh...As a force multiplier, not as a alternative for LMG (as you suggested). Why are...defenceforumindia.com
Negevs are here. Right on time..
The requirement is about 40,000 more. If you add the other services' requirements, you may go up to around 60k. An RFI for 44,000 more LMGs is out.Indian Army gets 6,000 new Israeli Light Machine Guns
The Indian Army received the first consignment of 6,000 Israeli Negev Light Machine Guns out of the 16,000 ordered last year under the Fast Track Procedure.www.indiatoday.in
Except that thing wasn't going to be light. It was some sort of FN MAG derivative, downsized quite a bit, but could never compete with the likes of the Negev or Mk.48. Still be too heavy. We'll not be seeing an indigenous LMG design in service anytime soon. Not unless an Indian company can design something capable of competing with the Negev NG-7, which seems poised to win the tender for the other 44k LMGs as well, seeing as IWI already manufactures products in India.Someone had posted in PSU thread that ARDE is developing a light machine gun.

But, you have to expect the Negevs to be in service for another 30 to 40 years, easily. So no indigenous LMG for the Indian army until the next mass replacement of small arms, which is not going to happen soon, because small arms tech has plateaued. Next major breakthrough will be portable railguns/coil guns. Until those come, we'll be stuck with whatever we buy in the next few years.
Existing weapon systems will be upgraded with FCS like feature packed optics in the near future (relatively, maybe by 2030), but that is about it. More focus will be given to network centric warfare, individual situational awareness systems, etc.
Is ARDE working on something else? But FN-MAG derivative is from OFB.
@KarthiIs ARDE working on something else?
Is army happy with their own product now ?
Looks like this is the optimal dimensions of a small arms weapon system for Indian female build, not INSAS or AK.

NICEE! Proper MOLLE based plate carrier, multicam camo on the gun, optic, light, med kit, knife, etc.. I'd have liked the mag pouches in the front though. But otherwise, everything is where it needs to be. Add a radio and push to talk (connected to headset/earset), and the plate carrier setup is complete.Assam Rifles
