Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif is a frontrunner for the post of interim prime minister of the country in place of Nawaz Sharif.

The appointment of an interim prime minister has been necessitated as Pakistan's Supreme Court on Friday delivered its verdict in Panamagate case and disqualified Nawaz Sharif to continue as Prime Minister.

According to Pakistani media reports, other names that have been doing rounds are for interim prime minister are: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Despite Nawaz's disqualification, ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) enjoys a majority in the Parliament and will rule the country till general elections are held in mid-2018.

According to Pakistani media reports, it was decided in advance that if the Supreme Court disqualifies Nawaz Sharif then Asif will be made interim prime minister for 45 days till someone from Nawaz Sharif's family, like wife Kasloom or brother Shahbaz Sharif, is elected to the lower house of National Assembly.

This is the third time Nawaz has been unable to complete his term as Pakistan prime minister.

The SC verdict says that the cases would also be opened against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar; MNA Captain Muhammad Safdar; Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam, and sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.

On April 3, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) made 11.5 million secret documents available to the public for the very first time. The documents, coming from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, contain confidential attorney-client information for more than 214,488 offshore entities.

The Panamagate case was brought to court by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan alleging money laundering, corruption, and contradictory statements by Nawaz Sharif after the Panama Papers leak uncovered links between Sharif's family and eight offshore companies.

The Paki Army has huge stakes in the CPEC as across the board contracts for logistics is with the Army. All container trucks, buses, lorries and rolling stock (when the rail line to Kashgar is constructed) are under contract with the Paki Army.

The NLC or National Logistics Cell in Pak is controlled fully by the Army. And the Generals will be laughing all the way to the bank once operations over the CPEC commence.

Pakistan Army's infrastructure at LoC was destroyed around 10 days back. So, they are busy rebuilding their bunkers and camps. Most possible reason of silence at LoC now. Anyways, I have some half a dozen short clips of Indian Army retaliations on 19th July, I will upload it after few days once I stitch all those videos.

Firstly, wtf, why now at this critical juncture, what is the point of releasing this news when we are at absolute loggerheads with China.

The CAG report said, of the 152 types of ammunition used by the military, availability of 55 per cent types was below the minimum inescapable requirement for operational preparedness. For another 40 per cent types of ammunitions, the army had a stock of less than 10 days.

No 'Significant' Progress In 3 Years: Auditor On Army Ammunition Shortage
CAG had earlier warned that Army could not fight a war beyond 15 to 20 days due to ammunition shortage.

New Delhi: The world's second-largest standing army is woefully short on ammunition and there hasn't been a remarkable change in the last few years, the country's top auditor told parliament on Friday. The shortage dents the army's ability to sustain a war for a long period.

This is the audit watchdog's second report on the shortage of ammunition in the army since 2015. In the last one, it had gone by stock levels in 2013 and warned that the army could not fight a war beyond 15 to 20 days.

Friday's report lamented that despite highlighting "serious concerns" in its earlier report, "no significant improvement took place in the critical deficiency in availability and quality of ammunition... since March 2013".

The state-run Ordnance Factory Board, or OFB, supplies nearly 90 per cent of the army's requirement of ammunition. Of the remaining instances where the ammunition had to be bought from elsewhere, the audit report said most cases initiated by the Army Headquarters from 2009 were still pending.

A Rs. 16,500 crore plan drawn up by the defence ministry in 2013 that targetted wiping the shortages by 2019 hasn't taken off yet. "We noticed that no case had culminated into the contract," the Comptroller and Auditor General's report said.

Not surprisingly, the report concluded that there had only been a slight improvement.

Of the 152 types of ammunition used by the military, the report said availability of 55 per cent types was below the minimum inescapable requirement for operational preparedness. For another 40 per cent types of ammunitions, the army had a stock of less than 10 days. The availability of high-calibre ammunitions for tanks and artillery meant to sustain superior fire power in a cross-border war "are in more alarming state".

It also pointed that the deficiency of fuzes - fitted to an artillery shell just before firing - had declined from 89 per cent in 2013 by just six percentage points. This means the army still can't use 83 per cent of ammunition for tanks and artillery.

There was no immediate comment from the government on the audit report.

But the audit findings comes days after the government gave the army's Vice Chief Lt General Sarath Chand to directly procure 46 types of ammunition to fight short and "intense wars" without going to the defence ministry. Also, the government had last year cleared emergency procurement of weaponry worth 20,000 crores after the Uri terror attack on September 18, last year.
