Similar will be the case for Nepal and Bangladesh in few years from now. Today they see easy money coming from China. Once the repayment start, these countries will also have to do such favours to Chinese which may be against Indian interest.

Should India work with Asian Development Bank or World Bank or US or EU and assist our neighbors to pay off Chinese debt and free our neighborhood and IOR of Chinese influence?

If we are able to do so, we can have such huge stakes in their port projects.

I hope government do something to make our neighborhood safe.
nobody will do much to please China. I doubt anybody will pay china one cent back. Look at pak not able to go to war with India right now ;after I am sure many Chinese requests

That would mean China will slowly colonize all these countries. China will hold majority stake in the big ticket projects in these countries like holding 70% stake in Sri Lanka port project.

It all depends on the will of the nation whether they understand this as intrusion on their sovereignty or a business opportunity.

But now these countries will be wary of taking loans from China.

By the way India offers loans at 1%. This is tax payers money. We should increase the interest rates for these countries who are going in Chinese lap. They can pay 6% interest to China. Why not pay a 5% or 4% to India? We can also earn interest or in return take stake in high value projects.

India Today ruffles China's feathers by excluding Taiwan and Tibet from map - Taiwan netizens welcomes

By Keoni Everington,Taiwan News, Staff Writer
2017/07/27 18:48

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- In a bizarre reversal of fortune, instead of the usual erroneous inclusion of Taiwan in a map of China, the cover of the latest issue of the magazine India Today, not only excludes Taiwan from Chinese territory, but it also carved away Tibet from its posterior, while a tiny green chick in the shape of Pakistan stands behind it.

The creative illustration for its cover story, titled "China's New Chick," which analyzes China and Pakistan's growing economic ties, was selected as the "The Cover of the Day" by the Society of Publication Designers (SPD), New York.

China's Sina News quickly responded by asking "Where's our Tibet and Taiwan?" In the article, India Today claims that the China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) is laying the groundwork for a "takeover of Pakistan by China," for it to eventually become "China's colony."

The question from the Taiwanese media is why the editors of the magazine decided to exclude Tibet and Taiwan from the illustration and what message were they trying to convey. Thus far, there have been no public comments by the editors of the magazine on the subject.

When China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kong was questioned by reporters about the magazine cover, he jokingly said "You're really taking that little trick seriously? Next question."

Taiwanese netizens were heartened by the new map:

"This is the correct version of the map."

"India has finally done a positive thing that the world can look up to."

"China really gets worked up if there's no Taiwan."

"Come and eat Indian curry today."

"That's a good cover, why not buy one?"

China now threatens Britain with WAR over a decision to send Aircraft Carriers to SCS

It seems that after India, Britain has now come in the firing line of the hawkish Chinese state media. The reason is another territorial dispute - the South China Sea - where China is flexing its muscles, like it's trying to do with India in the Doklam dispute.

Britain has announced it will send its two aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth - the largest in the British fleet - and HMS Prince of Wales to the South China Sea.
It does so in solidarity with the international community's pledge to ensure freedom in navigation operations in international waters, and to counter China's attempts to dominate the area by building artificial islands and militarising it with warships and fighter jets.

An editorial in the official Chinese publication Global Times, which regularly threatens India of war over the India-China Doklam plateau border standoff, has warned Britain that sending warships to the South China Sea would be a provocation that would force China to take retaliatory measures.

Questioning the British motive behind the move, the editorial says "it is no longer 1840 and there are no longer any British colonies in East Asia" and that Britain has wrongly taken this decision under Australian and American influence. It describes the "US as a police officer, Australia as its assistant and the UK as its accomplice." The editorial says in a patronizing tone that Britain needs to maintain its self-esteem and should not allow itself to "be stupidly dragged back to Asia," which will only disgrace and humiliate it.

'AUSTRALIA CAN ONLY BARK'

Blaming Australia for lobbying hard to instigate Britain, the editorial says Australia "can only bark" and if Britain follows suit, its stature will reduced to "being an accomplice or a dupe." Canberra has traditionally maintained that China mustn't build artificial islands in the South China Sea or militarise it.

Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson revealed his country's plans to send warships to the South China Sea during his meeting with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop on Thursday. Bishop was recently in India, where she reiterated the traditional Australian stand on the South China Sea dispute.

Australia has indicated that it may join British efforts directed towards ensuring freedom of navigation patrol in the international waters of the South China Sea - a vital trade route for many countries, and the global economy.

In May, during his Australia visit, US Senator John McCain urged Australia and other nations to conduct naval exercises in the South China Sea, to challenge China - which was acting like a bully.

SEVEN-WAY DISPUTE

The territorial dispute in the South China Sea involves seven countries - China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. A busy trade route passes through it and all other countries except China are in favour of keeping its status as free, international waters.

China wants to control it as it imports most of its oil through this trade route and has built artificial islands in the sea. Doing so would enable China to establish hegemony in East and Southeast Asia. As well, it would keep foreign military forces like the US away from the region.

The US Navy has a sizeable presence in the South China Sea and it routinely carries out patrols in the area to deter the Chinese efforts, maintaining that the South China Sea waters must remain free for international navigation. China doesn't recognize these claims - including the United Nations Convention on Laws of the Sea (UNCLOS) which has invalidated the Chinese claims on the South China Sea - and says China has controlled these areas since ancient times and if there's any dispute, it should be resolved by the concerned nations through bilateral discussions.

There are two aspects. 1. Pak never had the guts to goto war with India. They always look for opportunity to sneak in like a thief. As in Kargil. More so in present scenario of nawaz getting thrown out pak army cannot think of getting into straight fight with India. This Doklam issue seems was a chinese attempt to divert attention from LoC and give some relief to Pakis.
2. OBOR is nothing but neo colonism. After all British also started with East India Company. Also China s internal economy is in shambles and they need to generate external demand to keep their workforce occupied. BRI is a way out for this to happen.

This might not be related to LC or LAC, but I felt this is important to this thread, for a simple reason, the funds received from this, will go back to fund terrorism, and the value is huge - Rs.3500 crores. Good to see the CG on high alert.
