Sikkim standoff: Indian soldiers can withdraw, be captured or be killed, says former Chinese diplomat to India
The comments by Liu Youfa, a former Chinese consulate general in Mumbai, come amid a military stand-off between India and China in the Doklam area.
INDIA Updated: Jul 20, 2017 20:26 IST

A former Chinese diplomat who recently served in India has said that Indian troops deployed at the disputed Donglang area could either withdraw voluntarily, be captured or be killed.

The comments by Liu Youfa, a former Chinese consulate general in Mumbai, come amid a military stand-off in the Donglang area – also called Doklam – with Beijing blaming Indian soldiers of trespass and preventing Chinese soldiers from building a road in the region, which is also claimed by Bhutan.

“According to what I understand of international law, when people in uniform get across the border to move into the territory of the other side, they naturally become enemies who will have to face three consequences: First, they can go out voluntarily, or they may be captured or when the border dispute should escalate, they may be killed,” Liu told CGTN, the English channel of national broadcaster CCTV.
Liu said the current standoff might be said be part of the border dispute but “it is an invasion.”

Speaking at a program on the standoff, Liu said China has been “patient” so far.

“So, there are three possibilities. So, I think the Chinese side is standing there waiting for the Indian side to make the sensitive choice” and pull out of the region, Liu argued. “This is the best result for both sides to avoid the eventual confrontation.”

“The Chinese side has so far given so much time for the Indian side, for our Indian friends to take sensitive measures,” Liu, who is associated with a Chinese think-tank, said.

Beijing wants India to withdraw its troops from Donglang before the two sides can open talks. New Delhi says the road, if built, will have serious security implications for India.

Liu brushed aside India’s concerns about its security concerns.

“Indian forces have stepped across the border with no warning. We have a saying: You have stepped into my front yard and when I ask you to move, you say you got to give me something to pull out. Is that logical?” he asked.

Building roads in borderline areas are sovereign rights for India and China.

“Construction of the road by the Chinese government should not service the ground to send your troops across the border,” Liu said. India is building airfields and highway networks along the border and “…you cannot stop China from doing the same.”

“China and India are two great neighbours that cannot afford to be hostile to each other. Neither side should take the advantages of the concessions and the goodwill to move beyond reasonable limits,” he said.

India for freedom of navigation in South China Sea
Published July 20, 2017 SOURCE: IANS

India said on Thursday that there should be freedom of navigation in the South China Sea.”Our stand is there should be freedom of navigation and unimpeded commerce (in South China Sea),” External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told the Rajya Sabha. The Minister also said that no power can cast a ring around India.”China has been building ports and facilities close to Indian maritime boundaries,” she said. “They have built a facility which they call logistic support facility at Djibouti. They have also developed ports at Kyaukpyu in Myanmar, Hambantota in Sri Lanka and Gwadar in Balochistan. “But to say that India is being surrounded is not correct. India is alert towards its security. No power can surround or corner India,” she said.

Indian Army sets Sept deadline to end South Kashmir Terror

The Indian Army has set a deadline of September-end to eliminate most of the terrorists, if not all, in south Kashmir with the full backing of political groups of all hues in the Valley, highly-placed sources have told The Tribune.

They said the Army has “complete political support of the government and the Opposition in Kashmir”.

“All of them are nationalists notwithstanding their articulation of different nature, which may sound offensive to the sensitivity of the times, situation and the place,” a top-ranking officer observed.

Having realised the current volatile situation in south Kashmir, that has become synonymous with the Kashmir problem at the international level, the Army has embarked on a “surrender or face bullet” aggressive strategy.

South Kashmir has posed a serious challenge to the security apparatus and has also changed the narrative after the July 8, 2016 killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.

The Army has taken on terrorists in a big way with the help of the local police. The impression of “terrorists being more powerful” is being dispelled by the frequent anti-terror operations. There are approximately 100 terrorists in south Kashmir and many have been eliminated, including top-ranking ones like Sabzar Bhat, Bashir Lashkari and Junaid Matoo.

“This is what we are supposed to do and that’s what we are doing. Our primary objective is to remove the atmosphere of fear,” the commander said.

Our PSUs need to learn from Indian Army. First the deadline was set to winter, Now it is preponed to September.

Is there a chinese angle to it? 1962 and 67 war began in october.

chinese are squealing like pigs, while GoI is maintaining studied silence. Looks like Modi and Doval believe in Shri Teddy Roosvelt's saying about talking softly. Any war will end chinky dream of asian century. India will not hit tibet or Xianjin, target is always the real china in the far east.

There will be no skirmish these manuvours are to pressurise India to negotiate and resolve the border disputes as India is aligning with USA and Chinese don't want it to happen. When there is no border dispute there is no major activities in Indian ocean by the IN, USN and JN. But the border disputes are created by China not India.

India needs to move as per it's long term interest.

China cannot afford pressure on both SCS and IOR.

US agrees to whole J&K being an integral part of India, not Pakistan

Source Link: CLICK HERE

In what would vindicate India’s stand, the USA has replaced the term India-administered Kashmir with Jammu and Kashmir in its order designating Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin as a global terrorist announced during PM Narendra Modi’s trip to Washington DC.

This was informed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday by MoS external affairs VK Singh in reply to a question on the subject.

“On June 26, during the visit of the Prime Minister to the US, the Department of State designated Syed Salahuddin, leader of the militant group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The media note issued by the State Department in this regard on that date had interalia stated “Under Salahuddin’’s tenure as senior HM leader, HM has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including the April 2014 explosives attack in India-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which injured 17 people,” the minister said.

He further pointed out, taking cognizance of this, the Ministry’s Spokesperson had issued a statement on June 29, 2017 reiterating the well-known position of India that the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India. The matter was also taken up with the US, following which Media Note has been amended by the US State Department in which the reference to ‘’India-Administered Jammu and Kashmir’’ has been replaced by ‘the state of Jammu and Kashmir’.
