Soldiers from the EME (Electrical & Mechanical Engineers) assemble the turret onto a Stuart tank just before the attack on Zoji La. The tanks were transported upto the pass without their turrets to keep the move secret. Photo Courtesy: The Battle of Zoji La by Dr Sudhir S Boleria

The Only 120mm Gun which can be mounted over Light Tanks and Wheeled armored vehicles are produce by GIAT..
Not true, UPB Anders-WWO use 120mm L50 RUAG CTG gun, also Rhinemetall have it's 120LLR gun, US designed 120mm XM360/L48 (M360/L48) gun for light platforms (even these weighting ~20 tons) and from it developed MBT version XM360E1/L48 (M360A1/L48) gun for M1 series MBT's.

Polish Gov is phasing out PT-91 and other T-72 models with Anders..

That`s Why, They intended to up-armored Anders to 40 tons..
Nope, T-72's will be phased out because they are old, PT-91's will serve longer with Leo2A4's, some upgrades maybe will be done to both in 2018.

There is program for our own MBT codenamed Wilk(Wolf)/Maczek (it is name of polish General from WWII), still it is in very early phase.

Good to know..

But it is said guns will be from Slovakia ?

Wolf program was closed ?, Its said Anders will be used in Mech Inf forces instead of BMP and it will take place of T-72..

Future of Anders UPB is not certain, Army probably even don't wan't WWO variant (WWO - Wóz Wsparcia Ogniowego/Fire Support Vehicle/Light Tank)

Anders is Polish industry idea "how to swindle money from polish MoD and goverment". In Polish army all tankers want's Leopard-2 - as fast and far as possible, becouse even old Leo2A4 for 1986r is better then T-71M1/Pt-91/PT-91MZ or stupid Anders.
Anders never will be a tank for Poland. Polish industry hate Leopard2 and, Polish industry (Bumar) through lobbying at the right-wing politicians blocked the acquisition of the second party Leo2A4 (128 tanks) for Germany (for free).

Research on to develop lighter battle tanks.....

Chennai | Posted on Dec 29, 2011 at 10:44am IST

CHENNAI: Research is underway at the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) to develop light weight tanks for the Indian Army, said S D Dimri, Director General, Ordnance Factories, here on Wednesday.
He was speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Avadi Heavy Vehicles Factory (AHVF).
Addressing mediapersons on the upcoming developments, he said the technology to destroy anti-tank missiles had been bought from Russia and the same, to be introduced soon, would be upgraded to suit the needs of the Indian tanks. "The present tanks weigh around 45-60 tonnes. Technological superiority is increasingly going to be the decisive factor in future battles. The prediction is that future tanks would weigh less than 30 tonnes, mak- ing them light enough to fly in fleets of C-130 transports, land on dirt strips, and roll off ready to fight," Dimri said.
"The production of equipment at the Avadi Heavy Vehicles Factory works out to 25 per cent and this translates to production of ` 2,600-crore worth equipment per year, whereas the total amount of equipment produced through all ordnance factories is `12,000 crore. Two more ordnance factories will come up in Nalanda (Bihar) and in Korba (Chattisgarh)," he added.
MC Bansal, Additional Director General, Indian Ordnance Factories, and MSN Rao, General Manager, AHVF, were also present.

instead of investing on light tanks shouldn't we invest on 14mm or .55cal anti Armour rounds .You don't need advance AT missiles to take on 20-30 tonne tank ,they can be taken care of Heavy machine guns with Armour pearsing rounds mounted on LAV . in a hilly regions like Himalayan you can do a top attack on a tank hull from a top of a hill with a 84mm RCL gun .

106mm RCL are still in use but the biggerst disadvantage of RCL is the back blast they do..

Anyways Light tanks are important for fire-support in thick small arm fire, A support arm for infantry to move faster..

Strykers are currently under modernisation program, after it vehicle will have double V hull belly and better armor, also ERA and the overall weight should increase to approx 30 tons. It seems that US Army is resigning from C-130 transportability of it's AFV's.

We have our own plans for IFVs. First prototype should be ready in 2017. No idea how work is progressing.

Progress is good, last i heard Mahindra is busy with designing one prototype.

We will have two prototypes from two companies by 2017. Winner gets 70% of orders and remaining orders go to the loser.

Some say 70% will be wheeled version and 30% are tracked, lot of confusions !!

Is this as per IA requirement or a DRDO initiative?

While one can helidrop/ heliland such tanks, what is its staying power in a tank infested country?

How is it different from a PT 76?

PT 76 was amphibious in addition and hence greater flexibility.

Does this tank have such capabilities?
