why didnt we go for sprut which is a proven tank and it was far better then what the western had in their inventory and i am sure it is cheaper
YouTube - Sprut-SD. The 125 mm air-droppable tank.
This is a very-very good light tank, But Deputy Minister of Defence - Chief of armed forces of Russia Vladimir Popovkin described the closure of a number of development works (ROC) and production of armored vehicles which includes Sprut-SD.

Ъ-Газета - "Перспективная" бронетехника устарела раньше, чем стала в строй

well those are one of the reasons why you see Mig crashes so much after 90s i know the russian were not able to supply the equipment when needed but still the polish use to supply the spares of mig 21 for mig 23 which had the same numbers and which looked the same but the russian says that it still wont work because the design was bit different
Actually we still do have the same problem, Its the engine`s fuel pump which is main problem..
During early 90s IAF was desperate and spares were coming from almost all eastern block countries this also includes Ukraine..
Even today latest MIG-21 are vulnerable coz of their unreliable engines..

Whatever skilled maintenance workers of IAF keep the massive fleet of MIG-21 operational..

May be no-body cares abt Light tanks :happy_2:..

BEML is doing lot on heavy vehicles specially much needed Light tanks in NE, and 155mm/52l guns ( wheel and tracked ) for Arty these are primary equipment, what we need desperately..

An agreement was signed yesterday at the exhibition DEFEXPO-2010. According to the President of BEML, VRS Natarajana, the project will be based on a program implemented by OBRUM (Polish XXI century chariot of fire). Indian requirements include the possibility of breakdown in the district suspended the battlefield by helicopter. Tank in the Indian version is to be manufactured by BEML.
During DEFEXPO-2010 BEML has announced the opening of a new plant in Palakkad in Kerala. There will be air launched production industry group. BEML has invested in the company 2.6 billion rupees (about $ 50 million).
Yes, its odd that Indian Media missed such important agreement! :happy_2:

BEML also signed an agreement with the Slovak Tanaxem on the construction of armored vehicles for use in anti-terrorist operations and przeciwpartyzanckich. Slovaks are to provide cannon, which will be assembled in India, BEML will produce the fuselage of the vehicle.
Isn't the Slovaks provided BEML the TOT of 155mm/52cal barrel for wheel and tracked howitzers!
Whatever the case i only WISH this all project come true, It will be be beneficial for soldiers on the fields, WE need these equipments!

Lets hope, what we wish come true.. :)

Light tank test fire its 120mm Gun..

Light tank ( Anders ) test fire its 120mm Gun..
Anders, Polish Technology Demonstrator multitasking platform battle of the twentieth century, fired the first time with its 120-mm working at the shooting range at the training ground ZM Bumar Ładędy in Gliwice.

For fire testing Anders, which began on 5 October 2010, spent 20 rounds of 120 mm caliber, anti-core - schools (APFSDS-TT), and fragmentation-burzÄ…cych (HE-TT), produced in Pionki. On the first day of testing was fired eight missiles (after 4 and 4 anti-fragmentation-demolition) in the different positions of the tower. Measurements of the dynamics of the construction work at each tank fired, hull stress and acceleration of the car due to the recoil guns. They proved to be somewhat smaller than originally estimated.

After visual inspection of the vehicle is equipped with an aiming system components and internal systems, taken before the first attempts cognition. Anders once again came up on the range shooting Oct. 7. This time it was given 5 shots, checking as vibrations and shocks affect the components of the equipment. And in this case, there was no negative impact shots.

Remaining 7 rounds of 120 mm caliber will be used at the beginning of November 2010 during the first public screening Anders shooting in which to participate are representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Polish Army General Staff and commanders of units - Andersów future potential users.

If the first post on this article is true then great going for BEML! Considering that we might need a HUGE amount of light tanks in northeast in a potential confrontation, this JV with the Polish was the smartest decision Indian side made as this would mean shared profits, joint advertising to third countries as well as better development of indigenous technologies and having foreign partners willing to cooperate at the same time.

India in general should increase defence cooperation with east European countries, that have decent and sometimes very high quality defence products courtesy their Soviet R&D foundation and take every advantage of such opportunities. Countries like Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine etc are great potential partners for small and medium defence projects that even Russia or others won't mind piping in. We've to understand that our economy will not be reaching US or even China's level in coming 2 years instantly and therefore to build everything 100% from scratch is as stupid as re-inventing the wheel. Hence, getting to cooperate with Eastern Europe where small and medium arms companies are having good research and knowledge, is the best option we have. There's never need to have everything 100% indigenous if 50% of most is Indian owned in most sense. ;;D

The Anders can be transported by our IL-76 aircraft but it cannot land on unprepared runways whereas our C-17's can transport one Anders each with some troops and can land on Wyoma airfield so I think it would make sense for our army to go for Anders.
Jus my 2 cents

@Kunal,

Why don't they directly put the ANDERS to test here in northeast India where they will be actually used rather than testing on the snowy and short mountainous regions of Poland? We need something 8 wheeled with individual power to each of them and have dual-layered concentric lining of hard rubber in-linings to keep the stuff running even when it is punctured. Steel tracks wear out too easily and require more maintenance compared to this. Or they could use that latest hard rubber tracked system as well that's there in one of the posts here.

@bharadwaj,

Our airfields are being prepared for this very reason keeping the bulk of ILs in mind.

No updates on tank, Polish are working with APC version, Seems like tank is going through test, anything comes up will be posted here....

Kunal, Is it possible for us to have this tank modified (by our own labs since its a partnership) and added with the Nag ATGMs? Konkurs from Russia is old already so I won't talk about it but if we can add an ATGM platform alongside the 120mm cannon version of this, I think it would be a great addition considering that we don't need to mass mobilize NAMICAs from Western command to supplement the ANDERs in case of a conflict in eastern sector. Remember that PLA has some fine roads (close to 27 some say) for bringing their light tanks and self-propelled artillery units into our side or even firing from their own border tip.

If we could add Nags in the 120 mm versions of ANDERs, it would be a powerful deterrent.

Anders will use LAHAT..
Anders will act as long range Anti tank platform also very useful against enemy infantry fortification over mountains..

Namica not needed in this zone as their are no danger of heavy Armour also their is not much place for mobility, All we are going to face is their top-class IFV and PC with assault guns if ever happens, Infantry with fire-forget ATGM are more suited in this region like Javelin..

Armour will be used against Enemy paratroopers if ever they try to land and dug in over supply routes..

3 Anders at a time with 12 men insides also few outside..

Indian Version will be lighter compare to polish once

Why do we need an Israeli ATGM? We should put Nag on it since its a venture between Poles and us. Nag is now a reality so we should use domestic stuff.

Its easier to use Lahat coz it can be fired directly from gun tube where Nag need modification on tank turret..

Also Nag is big and heavy we can have two outside of the turret like on BMP2, Once fired crew have to get out to reload another two..

Where Lahat can be stored many as 10 inside and can be fired from inside just like a shell..

Btw, DRDO already produced a Lahat variant which will be use on Arjun also Anders..
