@abingdonboy I think they are of similar dimensions. The loading auto you see in the pic is not very wide. Those things rarely are.
The loading auto seems to be of similar dimensions to the C8/Gypsy so the TATA LSV looks to be quite a bit wider

What's most interesting is this:

Appears not to be the TATA LSV afterall, wonder what ^ is, perhaps it is a Mahindra LSV afterall getting ready for the same LSV tender for the IA?

This is the TATA LSV which was spotted carrying out Internal trials on Mumbai-Pune expressway.

The Light Special Vehicle comes with a 3 litre, common rail turbo diesel DICOR engine that outputs 115 Bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The LSV is capable of hitting speeds of up to 100 Kph and comes with Power steering, air conditioning and weapon carrying ability which are standard features on the LSV.

The vehicle is also equipped with GPS and fire fighting equipment.

LSV variants will include mobile communications vehicle, ambulance and troop and weapons carriers. The other competitors in the LSV tender will be Mahindra with Axe and Defender series from Land Rover.

Land Rover will go against TAMO even though TATA owns LR?

Good question! :) Same company but different managements and business models. Like the Volkswagen Group which is a large international corporation having multiple car and truck brands, including Audi, SEAT, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Scania, MAN, and Škoda.

Irrespective of which company wins LSV tender, pune or chinchwad to be more specific is real silent winner.

Both vehicles being discussed have Pune plates.

Pune is an automotive hub, right?

+ hope to see more in-house R&D projects and more specialist vehicles being developed in the future. India is a giant in the auto sector but has next to know depth in high-end auto engineering.

Yup, Pune is the auto hub.

I am sure if forces keep going requirements, our chaps will keep designing.

The list of vehicles I would like to see are :

4 and 6 wheeler WHAP type vehicles.
Locally designed Polaris type vehicle, Mahindra has it for American market.

That is the IA way.....

Anyway, these LSVs will be ready for trails by the end of the year, not 10 years time.

Speaking purely about the TATA LSV:

I like the approach TATA has taken, the front cab is armoured (should easily be able to fit 4 occupents+ 1 gunner) but there is an unarmoured covered area at the rear, this will allow the LSV to be used in a multitude of roles and allows for a high degree of modularity on this one platform, there should easily be 4-6 roles that this one vehicle can perform depending on how it is configured (ambulance, recce/scout, utility, strike, C&C etc etc). TATA is certainly learning fast and has approached this RFI with the idea of creating a family of vehicles to serve in multiple roles within the IA and perhaps other forces.

Reminds me of the orginal HUMVEE:

But in fact it is a much more modern vehicle that TATA has created, sort of a mix between HUMVEE and JLTV

I didnt like the placement of spare tyre for tata LSV. I feel its not safe for mounting unmounting. Anybody has any ideas why they put it in that position.
