What you are talking about is a SF specific vehicle ie a light strike vehicle but this LSV is for a Light Specialist Vehicle is a support vehicle to replace the Gypsys in operational roles with the regular/CI units that are woefully outdated.Seems to be too heavy to conduct strikning raids in desert areas where that much protection is not an priority but mobility, and lightweight to be carried by Helis especially Mi 17 and future Chinook.
LSV Armed with ATGM or HMG depending on the mission.
Army revives interest in Light Specialist Vehicle
February 2, 2015: Unable to bring to fruition a 6 year quest for a light specialist vehicle, the Army plans to announce afresh its interest in procuring an undisclosed number of a common Light Specialist Vehicle (LSV) for all arms in a 3,500-kg unladen weight class category with a payload capacity of 900-1200 kg. The Army had originally expressed its interest in such vehicles back in August 2010. The Army has stipulated in its information request that the LSV needs to be capable of performing reconnaissance and patrol roles for all arms, provide space and cross mobility in all terrains (including high altitude and deserts) to small parties/teams (approximately six) and operately independently in the battle field. The Army has so far been given an opportunity to try out a series of LSVs both Indian and foreign- made. Indian contenders are likely to include the Mahindra Axe and Tata LSV, while the foreign offerings include the Defender series from Land Rover. Trials will be conducted across terrain in three different theatres since the selected vehicles are likely to be purchased in large numbers for use across arms. Variants of the LSVs with weapons fitment capabilities will also be incorporated once the tender is finalised this year. Sources say that the size of the order also means it would make eminent sense to purchase a vehicle developed and built in India to the Army's specifications. There is a possibility that the requirement may be clubbed with additional similar requirements by the Home Ministry.
Army revives interest in Light Specialist Vehicle - SP's Land Forces
There is a RFI released this week for Mini truck, specs are same as mentioned in @cobra commando 's post and also fit with @aditya g 's pics.Tata LSV design revealed:
So it seems there has been some feedback from army and redesign has been done.
Note:
-armoured cabin
-almost nil rear overhang
-seems to be smaller than previous design
RFI says seating capacity of 4(excluding the driver)and also mentions gunners hatch as requirement. This is the reason i think the requirement is not for a truck per se.Army is looking for something like this, if I understood that RFI correctly.
British Army's Pinzgauer
Ashok Leyland came up with this, Garuda 4×4. Modified versions should fit the bill perfectly.
Well, the one I posted is only exceeding the seating capacity which is not a bad thing but IMO most parameters are being met. Gunners hatch should be a very easy installation.RFI says seating capacity of 4(excluding the driver)and also mentions gunners hatch as requirement. This is the reason i think the requirement is not for a truck per se.
Let's see how this works out.Facility for easy and quick conversion to flat bed configuration by removal of side walls and tail board of vehs with locking arrangement for container transportation.
