We plan to make 24 aircraft a year for which we are setting up parallel production lines...
- HAL chairman and managing director R. Madhavan

Does this mean anything or is it just empty talk? What he said could not be clearer.

Its nothing but a PR exercise. In couple of years he well retire with a handsome pension and the next chief will come with a new set of promise.!

Which parts are the fuelsage Pakistan makes India makes the whole fuelsage right ?
<removed by mod> india makes all of the fuselage (except the radome & engine, that's imported)... Other than that the refueling probe, HMDS, radar & ejection seat are still imported.

Those are the low use high-end stuff, ie, they require a considerably high amount of money in the R&D compared to more parts/subsystems (like radar that we've now developed).

Radome is made by HAL under license.

Radome wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radome
A radome (a portmanteau of radar and dome) is a structural, weatherproof enclosure that protects a radar antenna. The radome is constructed of material that minimally attenuates the electromagnetic signal transmitted or received by the antenna, effectively transparent to radio waves. Radomes protect the antenna from weather and conceal antenna electronic equipment from view. They also protect nearby personnel from being accidentally struck by quickly rotating antennas.

We have imported design radome from a British firm.

Radome is not a low use item. They are required in every aircraft and more importantly in every guided missile that has RF-component involved in guidance.

Subject: Ok fully formal with you...

Dear sir,

Radome is the front conical part of the jet with houses the radar.. we can make a Kevlar one at home, but the quartz rains by UK Chobam is more transparent to letting radar waves pass better.

(Apparently we build it under ToT now, I didn't know that.)

Oh fuck no, it's all relative... return on investment.
R&D of a radone will cost near as much as the 110kN engine (which itself is the most money sucking R&D possible)!

Simpler to just ToT import it. Kinda similar for HMDS or HUD too... better to just buy one from experts & concentrate on jammers, sensors instead.

If there is no big hurry on developing an indigenous randome, the technology could be developed in India, couldn't it? That would make it one more part of the aircraft that could not be witheld by another country in the case (for example) of military conflict breaking out between India and a neighbouring country.

On that score, UK-based Cobham was bought by a US consortium in 2020. I wonder if that means that either UK or US governments could block supplies in the event of India becoming involved in an armed conflict with Pakistan.

By the same logic we are wasting money developing engines as we can buy them off the shelf as in the case of Tejas, same goes for Uttam AESA radar (we can get ToT for EL/M-2052) or DARE EW warfare suite (we can get ToT for EL/M-8222 jammer and its Eco-system) and the list goes on.

The reason you start any scientific endeavor is to cultivate scientific progress, thinking and acumen in local populaces and get your requirement fulfilled at the same time. You need to get local science's development wheel in motion. The added benefit is that your local industries also get a boost and you simulate your economy.

Now that we have developed/developing MaRV and several precision guided munitions radar/RF-based seeker and its housing have become important. The reason we went with British radone was because Indian radone failed to deliver expected performance and not because they were cheaper. This project has at-least kick-started material science development locally.

The reason US military is so effective is because its military is an asset it its economy, (it stimulates their economy) at the same time Indian military burdens to its economy with every import.
