The Reason the Kolkatas are delayed is because the bureaucrats who handled the contracting for the LR-SAM development forgot to add one small detail that the control suite of the SAM had to be compatible with the Central software architecture of the Kolkatas, its a software issue plain and simple the missiles and launchers themselves are ready only that the Kolkatas software cannot launch them or target them , so the entire software for the missile system is being reprogrammed. The system should be ready and integrated with the hulls by end 2015.
Where did you get the information sir?

If the above is indeed the case, why the SAM hasn't been delivered to India and tested standalone at PXE/ ITR Balasore? As it is the norm with all imported systems.system.

That probably doesn't require control suit for integration with CSA.

Where i got the info is not important, what i have come to know is that the missile has already been tested from launchers in Israel with Indian Observers/team members present so there is no need to test it further from land based launchers in Balasore.
What will be done however is that most probably an older warship with the same software suite as the Kolkatas will be sent over to Israel for refitting with one launcher and missiles and the missile will be test fired from that ship before integration with the Kolkata.

Well that's important cause, I feel this is coming from a source who has all the information (insider) under the sun. And solution to everything that even NSA might not possess.

Jokes apart, individual sources are always a notch below institutional one that to if the individual source is from a comment section of a blog.

So, if that is indeed the case I would take that information with a pinch of salt.

All what you say, is for a matter of time and I would save this post of yours for further reference.

Country's most potent indigenous warship joins service this month

The honour of first warship to be commissioned into service under the new government will fall on INS Kolkata. The first of the indigenously designed and constructed Kolkata-class destroyers joins service with the navy this month under the command of Capt Tarun Sobti and a complement of over 300 crew. The 7,000 ton warship, built at the Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL) will be by far the most lethal warship ever to enter service with the Indian Navy, in terms of sheer armament and bang for buck. The ship comes armed with anti-ship, anti-air missiles, guns and anti-submarine torpedoes, in addition to the capacity to deploy two helicopters. The ship's heart, its primary sensor is the IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA multi-function radar, in addition to being fitted with the IAI EL/M-2238 L-band STAR surveillance radar, BEL HUMSA-NG bow sonar, BEL Nagin active towed array sonar, BEL Electronic Modular Command&Control Applications (EMCCA Mk4) combat management system and the Thales LW-08 D-band air search radar. The second and third ship in the class, the Kochi and Chennai, will be commissioned in December 2014 and next year respectively.

The missile is scheduled to undergo testing in naval configuration by the end of this year from the ITR.

The trial schedule in India may include at least three tests in the November 2014-March 2015 period as reports in February'14.

BrahMos missile test-fired
from warship INS Kolkata

India on Monday successfully test- fired the 290 km-range BrahMos supersonic anti-ship cruise missile from the country's largest indigenous warship INS Kolkata off the coast of Karwar in Karnataka. The Mazagon Dockyards Limited- built INS Kolkata is yet to be formally inducted into the Navy and will have the capability to launch 16 BrahMos missiles in one go when it enters operational service. The missile was test-fired from INS Kolkata, which is a new ship under Project 15-Alpha series, off the coast of Karwar on Monday morning and all the parameters were met during the test, defence officials told PTI here. INS Kolkata is the first of its class of warships in the country and is undergoing extensive trials before its planned induction into the Navy in July, they said. The Navy has already deployed BrahMos weapon systems on several of its warships including the Russian-origin Talwar Class vessels. The missile is expected to be carried by all future destroyers and frigates of the Navy and it is also being developed to be offered to the maritime force for being deployed on submarines, the officials said. The missile has also been inducted into the Army and the Air Force and is being readied for firing from a Su-30MKI combat aircraft. The weapon system will also have its land version inducted into the Air Force. The Army has deployed it in both the eastern and the western fronts along the borders with both China and Pakistan. The Indo-Russian joint venture BrahMos Aerospace has developed several variants of the missile for different kinds of warfare and is now developing a much-faster hypersonic version of the weapon system.

Question.
Kolkata Class id definately one of the most heavily equipped Destroyer in the World. But are the Western Destroyers like British Type 45 superior in design? It looks so by their deck, etc.
Also Kolkata Class needs 325 crew to operate, while Type 45 takes 197(capacity 235).

Kolkata can do with more finishing touches. That Thales LW-08 should probably get replaced by a stealthier radar in the future, the deck could be more flushed, and definitely a thing or two about the automation required to cut down man power can be adopted in future designs, but what is lacks in finesse, it makes up in sheer amount of firepower, and I don't think anyone can doubt that :)

Awesome. The buries also have complement of 323 people. Type 45 are even more woefully under armed.
