Any chance of Gripen being the second choice for the next 80 birds? To start adding up in the lower section of IAF.

Its an excellent aircraft for the western borders but ppl rubbish it will kill LCA and has american parts and engine, while LCA itself has american engine.

The point is which one? The NG is paper plane, it is as untested as LCA is.

will i assume nobody knows pity:tsk:
Re. "what kind of strings attached to Rafale or it's completely string free and about the stealth will dassault let us modify the air like that fuel probe or like US you will tel us you can't do this do that and so on, what i mean is what is policies regarding Rafale."

You can remove that fixed refuel probe and find out the gain in increasing the range at which you are detected is pretty marginal. To produce a meaningful reduction in RCS you would have to scrap the whole thing and start again from scratch.

The flight control system, navigation, terrain-following radar and avionics are highly integrated and safety critical systems. It is highly unlikely the original design authority will be transferred to a licensee. The unstable nature of the platform adds a further layer of complexity.
In theory you might be granted some freedom of manoeuvre but in practice--given the nature of the Rafale design--you will have to go back to the original design authority.

MMRCA winner will get the ca. 80 a/c option as a natural follow on from the main contract.
Why would you want to add another type (and associated logistics nightmare) to an already complex IAF force structure?
The LCA is taking care of the low end of IAF.

Gripen NG never came for trials :)
Even the D version was heard came third after EFT and Raffy in trials.

NG is relatively new and they did bring 2 of them to Bangalore..

If the D was this much good, wonder what N can do.

The argument is based on 80 more selecting from other vendors, so we have to keep logic out of it.

Gripen and our LCA share very common features and dimensions no need for redundancy.
Same Engine, single engine, delta design...

Again lets keep logic aside and just bluff on what could be the next best option for 80.. for fun sake atleast.

Got the point, seems very unlikely for Gripen to come back, it will be something on the line for IN and mostly rafale

Their offer was the most promising among the vendors. They promised full ToT and whole production unit shifted. And TATA had made plans with a JV to design the next generation one with them, if i am not wrong.

This will be a political decision which maybe decided from US elections if Obama wins no US plane If Obama loses
a US plane might be possible?? Most likely F-15 in a naval role SH is unbeatable especially F-15C and above.

rafale will a a great power factor for IAF

just one question is rafale capable to enter in china deep inside and comeback

how is chances ??
Going deep and coming back, mission after mission? You are looking for a bomber, you are really looking for a B-2.

I am not familiar with the fuel fraction of the PAK FA / FGFA, its engine specific fuel consumption and aerodynamic finesse to judge whether it will be able to reach deep into the strategic Chinese hinterland. But I would not think so.

We never go for F-15 considered a counterpart of Su-30 and F-15 SE is considered more expensive than even F-35s by some reports.

This maybe off topic but I always wondered how difficult it would be to convert one our C-17 to a bomber? if we were alllowed. it would not be difficult the only things would be to add bomb bays.

SAAB Gripen does not own the technologies on at least the following major areas:

Engine (General Electric)
AESA radar (Selex)
Carbon fibre structural design (BAE)
Flight controls

What they can transfer is how to project manage a fighter design collecting technologies and design inputs from various vendors. India does not need that.
