The J&K Government is going to open liquor sale points at different locations in the Kashmir valley, where since 1991 militant groups had declared a ban on its sale and consumption.

The Excise Department has identified 183 new locations — 116 in Jammu and 67 in the Kashmir valley — for sale of liquor. A
ccording to an official document, the Excise Department has conducted a survey in exercise of the powers under rule 28 of the J&K Liquor and License Rules-1984 and Section 4 (B) of the Excise Act and identified these locations for the opening of new sale points.

As per the official letter (No EC/Exc/Sub-vend/663), the Excise Department has sought necessary approval to proceed further in the matter.

In 2017, it was all due to threats of militant and separatist groups that the then PDP-BJP government was forced to review its decision of opening a ‘duty-paid’ liquor shop even at the Srinagar airport.

In an effort to boost tourism, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had floated a tender for a duty-paid liquor shop at the Srinagar airport in 2017. Fearing reaction from radical groups, the then PDP-BJP government had rejected the proposal.

According to official data of the Excise Department, out of total 224 liquor shops in J&K, 220 shops are in Jammu province. In Jammu district only there are 135 liquor shops and only a dozen have been allowed to open.

All the 10 districts of the Jammu region have liquor shops, while only four shops are running in summer capital Srinagar, among the 10 districts of Kashmir. There are two liquor shops in Leh district of the Ladakh region. The four liquor shops of Srinagar are functioning in ‘safer zones’ due to threats of militant groups.

Ban by militants

  • Since 1991, militant groups have declared a ban on liquor in Kashmir, while J&K is officially not a ‘dry region’.
  • Liquor vends were closed in Kashmir after the Allah Tigers, a militant outfit, issued a blanket ban on its sale and consumption soon after the eruption of militancy in the region.

The above decision has triggered Pakistani propoganda accounts:-

Tweet :- In the midst of a pandemic, the #Indian government finds it an utmost priority to identity 67 locations in #Kashmir where they plan to set up liquor shops. Making liquor widely available is another attempt to humiliate Kashmiri Muslim sentiments & attract non-Muslim settlers

Tweet :- Opening of liquor shop near religious places has never been promoted anywhere in the country but Char-e-Sharief (Kashmiri Religious Place) has been identified as a site where liquor stores can be opened and put up for sale. Still wounded by Article 370, Kashmir is bleeding again.

After nearly three decades, people in Kashmir will soon be able to see Bollywood films on the big screen as Srinagar is all set to come up with a three-storey multiplex which is likely to start by March next year. Most of the cinema halls in Kashmir were closed in the 1990s due to diktats issued by terrorist groups.

Naturally this news has triggered propoganda accounts again :-

Tweet :- Indian state opening cinemas in Kashmir is like Nazi Germany opening theatres in Auschwitz. Both have same objectives - to whitewash the war crimes and hang a rose-tinted oil painting over closet full of skeletons. You cannot hide; cannot run away. Our memory will be our weapon

"The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will reportedly allocate 100 acres of land to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam to construct a temple of Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Jammu.

The administration in Jammu has identified seven places for the construction of the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple. A team of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam officials are in discussion with the administration to finalise suitable areas for building the temple," TTD chairman YV Subba Reddy told News18."

This is two month old news, the current news is that land has already been alloted (as far as I remember), however I can't find that news item anymore. If anyone finds it, please post it.

A Jammu-based NGO, Ikkjut Jammu, has released a report on the 6th of February on the demographic invasion of Jammu. In a press conference, the chairman of the NGO, Advocate Ankur Sharma, narrated the manner in which the Abdullah family and Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress party allegedly orchestrated a state-sponsored demographic shift of the Jammu region.

Sharma accused the ‘Secular-Muslim politicians’ of Jammu & Kashmir, the Abdullahs, the PDP and Ghulam Nabi Azad of engaging in a state-sponsored demographic invasion of the Jammu region. The demographic invasion was reportedly orchestrated with the very intention of altering the Hindu-majority character of the region. The report says that these leaders illegally occupied forest lands and built their houses on them and then proceeded to settle people from ‘Samuday Vishesh’ (mainstream media lingo for Muslims) on these illegally encroached land.

Advocate Sharma said that it was part of a state-sponsored effort to convert Jammu into a Muslim-majority province so that it could be made more like Kashmir. He said that legislative and executive interventions were made to achieve the said objective. He also said that migration was induced through specific policies. Advocate Sharma said that dubious NGOs who receive funds from Islamic countries helped Muslims buy property in Hindu dominated localities. As a consequence, a ring of Muslim colonies has been formed around Jammu.

The Waqf Board has also been accused of illegally capturing lands from poor people. Advocate Sharma said that thousands of Kanals of land from the poor people of Jammu have been illegally captured by the Waqf and then, was allotted to people from ‘Samuday Vishesh’. He also said that 100,000 residential accommodations have been constructed for Muslims around Jammu since 1990. According to demographic experts that were consulted, the Hindu character of Jammu will no longer remain intact in the next few decades and it will become a Muslim majority region.

Advocate Sharma also said that in 1994, there were 3 Mosques in Jammu in 1994 and twenty-six years later, the number stands at 100. Some areas of Jammu which were discovered to be symbolic of the demographic shift underway are Bhatindi, Narwal, Sunjwan, Kaluchak, Peer Baba Mohalla, Poonchi Mohalla, Channi Rama, Channi Himmat, Raika, Sidhra, Rangoora, Khanpur, Nagrota, Gujjar Mohalla, Qasim Nagar on both sides of newly built NH 44 Bypass. It was also said that the state-sponsored demographic shift in Jammu was pursued with the objective of turning the region into another Kashmir.

Ex-J&K CMs stripped of all privileges

In a major setback to surviving former chief ministers of the erstwhile state of J&K, who held the post after 1984, the Centre on Tuesday evening stripped them of lifetime privileges like rent-free accommodation, free medical care, pension, Z-plus security for them and their families, and other facilities, including one personnel assistant, one special assistant and two peons. The former CMs who will be affected by this development are Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Ghulam Nabi Azad.

When Farooq was CM in 1996, he had amended the State Legislature Members’ Pension Act, 1984, to add Section 3C, allowing former CMs to enjoy these privileges and benefits.

Anyone else thinks, Indian establishment doesn't care about propoganda?, of course if you are obsessively following Pakistani accounts on twitter and don't promote your own then you yourself are to blame for allowing them to hijack the narrative.

"Four judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court filed a report in the Supreme Court informing that no minor was detained or lodged in jails in the erstwhile state after the Centre revoked Article 370 and Article 35A that ended J&K's special status.

The judges, in the report, said that they visited all the jails in the newly-formed union territory. The report further mentions that allegations of minors and juveniles being detained by state authorities in the valley have been found to be wrong."

The Congressional-mandated 2020 Trafficking in Persons report of the State Department was released by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

A US State Department report on human trafficking in India has said terrorist groups continue to recruit and use children as young as 14 years in direct hostilities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congressional-mandated 2020 Trafficking in Persons report of the State Department, released by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday,
noted that Maoist groups, particularly in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, also forcibly recruited children as young as 12 to handle weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and in some cases be human shields.

According to the report, India made significant efforts towards stopping human trafficking in 2019, but did not fully meet the minimum standards.

"Advisor to J&K Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan launched the scheme at the fair price shops in Bhagwati Nagar area of Jammu, the spokesperson said.

Mr Khan said under ''One Nation One Ration Card'' initiative, eligible beneficiaries from any state and union territory would be able to get their entitled food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) from any fair price shop in the country with interstate portability.

The scheme was announced last year by the government of India, but it has recently gained momentum on account of migration during the COVID-19 lockdown, the official spokesperson said.

The system will enable any individual or migrant worker and their family member to access the Public Distribution System (PDS) from any fair price shop in the country, Mr Khan said.

During the inaugural function at a fair price shop, Mr Khan distributed ration among two beneficiaries from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh who were already registered with the NFSA in their home states, the spokesperson said.

These two beneficiaries also became first non-native beneficiaries of Jammu and Kashmir to receive ration under this initiative, he said."

The identified beneficiaries were authenticated through their Aadhar numbers, the spokesperson said.

From another source :-

"The increased competition is yielding up to 60 per cent higher returns for J&K, say officials in the administration.

However, the local business community feels it has been placed at a disadvantage competing against bigger players who make bids they just can’t seem to match."

"There are around 554 mineral blocks in J&K, of which 261 are in the 10 districts of Kashmir. Of these 261 blocks, each of which measures a maximum of 10 hectares, leases to 150-160 are being auditioned.

A significant number of the mineral blocks are situated along the banks of river Jhelum, considered a lifeline in J&K."

"These [the mines auctioned] include four in Budgam, 20 in Bandipora, 10 in Srinagar, three in Ganderbal and 36 in the volatile Pulwama region,” said Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, joint director in the J&K government’s Geology and Mining Department, Tuesday. "

Edit :- This website had excellent articles on counter terrorism in the past.

"All those who have been booked under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act can now be easily lodged in any jail in any part of the country as the legal protection, which was given over 40 years back, has been revoked by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs by carrying out amendments in the law.
Since the enactment of the Public Safety Act in 1978 those booked under the law were enjoying the legal protection of being lodged in the prisons of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir only. "
