Latest version of J-20 fighter jet completes maiden test flight

Taipei, March 1 (CNA) China's new version of its J-20 fighter jet completed its first test flight successfully Saturday, escorted by a J-10S fighter, a leading Chinese- language infotainment web portal cited sources as saying Saturday. The mil.news.sina.com.cn website said the plane landed successfully at around 12:30 p.m. Reports also said that the J-20 No. 2011 has undergone several improvements and upgrades in terms of engine capacity, as well combat and stealth ability. Chinese military expert Du Wenlong, in a recent interview with China's CCTV television channel, said the new version of J-20 could mean that all the technical problems of the old versions of J-20 have been solved and that combat training tests will follow.

I don't want to spoil your enthusiasm but that jet looks fat and heavy. The body is too wide and the two engines looks small compared to it. I hope the thrust-to-weight ratio of those engines are double that of F119. That jet looks cumbersome as a fighter and would appear to be better suited as a long range strike aircraft.

http://rt.com/news/fifth-generation-j-20-russian-engine-261/

While Beijing is proudly leaking more images of J-20 fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, China continues to buy Russian military jet engines and spare parts, which might indicate China is in a technological deadlock.

-China is making an attempt to catch up with world leaders and develop hi-tech vehicles in the absence of crucial military know-how and technology, like engines for ultrasonic cruise flights and active phased array antennas.

"As of now, it is too early to say that China is capable of creating a fifth-generation jet from start to finish," told RT Vasily Kashin from the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies.

those 'two hexagon barriers' would be some kind of Intake Air Spill Ducts to release some air for better air admission efficiency at different Mach speeds...

some bottom view of PT 2011... some changes could be noticed as well...

Stolen F-35 Secrets Now Showing Up in China's Stealth Fighter

A cyber espionage operation by China seven years ago produced sensitive technology and aircraft secrets that were incorporated into the latest version of China's new J-20 stealth fighter jet, according to U.S. officials and private defense analysts.

The Chinese cyber spying against the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II took place in 2007 under what U.S. intelligence agencies codenamed Operation Byzantine Hades, a large-scale, multi-year cyber program that targeted governments and industry.

Defense officials said the stolen data was obtained by a Chinese military unit called a Technical Reconnaissance Bureau in the Chengdu province. The data was then passed to the state-run Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC).

An AVIC subsidiary, the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, used the stolen data in building the J-20, said defense and intelligence officials familiar with reports of the illicit tech transfer.
