The bays are much larger than the F-35's too. But the arrangement does not allow this type of a configuration.

The Americans are getting more from less. Unless the J-20's side bays are BVRAAM compatible.

Anyway it was established long ago that this aircraft isn't an interceptor but an air superiority fighter.

J-20 with Stealth External pods
Is there an aerodynamic advantage to that arrangement to pods as opposed to hard points?

HIGH CLARITY PICS OF J20' WEAPONS BAY

F 22 internal's weapon bay

now on comparing it with F22 internal weapon bay F22 has 3 missile launcher pylon in each weapon bay meanwhile j20 has 2 missile launcher pylon in it's bay.

Well it would be interesting if they built a foldable fin Pl 12 missile to fit a third one

these months we could heard this Project on the TV news, interviews from time to time..but nothing important and exciting...

the active photographers outside manufacture site seems 'quiet' as well. but the reason is simple ..most of them are students and they are on Summer Vacation...LOL...

but we got some pix of the following PTs(PT03?) on the assembly line...necessary Image processing was taken.

-----------------------
two more pix here, not new but released recently.

a much clear image released last month (Oct), It seems not be posted here yet....source: DSWC

the closed side weapon bay door and the new Gen SRAAM--PL10 on the extended pylons...

-------------
a CG work of PL10 missile which is quite close to the real one ...but it seems that 4 small wings fit on the head part is missing in this CG work

------------

the details and possible design of the retractable pylons...

no... I thought the number 2008 is PSed(PT2002 actually)...and we still think there are only 2 PTs flying so far...some source said the PT2004 might be the renumbered PT2002...

---------------------------

another small adjustment of Tail Fin was spotted...but since we didn't get the Full image, we can't say too much about it...some argument on our forum about the "PS things", but it seems true after the considerable image enlarging job.

Experts FSUE "SPC Gas Turbine" Salute "successfully completed the first phase of bench tests and special resource to supply engines AL-31FN series 3

Experts FSUE "SPC Gas Turbine" Salute "successfully completed the first phase of resource posters and special tests of the engine AL-31FN series 3, which were organized in the thermal vacuum chamber Central Institute of Aviation Motors.

The tests were to secure a contract with China. This type of engine is released with improved resource and traction characteristics. Engine thrust AL-31FN series 1000 increased by 3 kg / s, and the resource has increased by 250 compared with its previous version.

Guidelines for the organization and conduct test work performed by the Directorate for Scientific Research and development activities of the plant "Salute".

AL-31FN series 3 might be simlar to the 99M1 Project or AL31F-M1 engine(13.5 tons class, for Su27SM3 upgrade) with the different accessory box positon.

some reliable source said it was for the first two Batch of J10B mainly and has been delivered already...J10B passed the national test and got the 'Aircraft Design Certiification' with this engine. the Serial Production began for a while...in J20 case ,we also thought that this model ,or the further imporvement 99M2 project might be the power plant for the first batch of J20 SPs ,the date might be in 2017

the model with the TVC nozzle was displayed on the Salute company exhibition stand during the past 4-5 times Airshow Zhuhai, China...but we thought we imported those without TVC

J-20 stealth fighter has three major weaknesses: Global Times

The Chengdu J-20, the PLA Air Force's first fifth-generation stealth fighter still has three major weaknesses to be overcome before it is ready to enter service, China's Global Times reports. The first major weakness is the engine; China is currently unable to design and produce engines powerful enough for advanced fighters. The prototype J-20 currently has the Russian-built AL-31F engine. However, Chinese pilots flying J-10 fighters using the AL-31F have experienced several accidents related to its poor reliability.
Furthermore, if the PLA continues to rely on Russian-built engines, it will never be able to operate its fighter free from the influence of Moscow, Global Times said. The article suggested therefore that Chinese engineers should design their own engine through studying the Russian technology. This would be far from the first instance of Chinese engineers back-engineering Russian technology.

Second, the design of the J-20"²s fuselage seems unfitting. While the weapons bay has been designed large enough to carry various types of payload, the aircraft's wings appear too small. A lack of proper aerodynamic design configuration compromises the stealth capability and maneuverability of the J-20, the report said.

Finally, Global Times said the J-20"²s two engines are positioned too close with each other and could cause a dangerous vortex when both are running at high speed. In sum, the J-20 is some way away from entering service, the report concluded, noting that in Western countries it is common for it to take between five and eight years between the design of a fighter prototype and the aircraft entering service.
