Arming a 2 million strong army takes decade, The new Excalibur will compete against foreign counterparts ..

Lets hope its a fair game ..
If we can make 1000 guns a day for 300 days a year,we can arm 2 million soldiers in 6-7 years only.

It seems BEL red dot is being issued to RR in mass ..

The photos are from recent encounters, Where BEL red dot is mounted on AKMs ..

=============================

Holographic Weapon Sight is suitable for small arms / weapons like INSAS Rifle / LMG / Assault Rifle / Rifle AK-47 and various other CQB arms. It is helpful for aligning the targets with precision, speed and highest aiming accuracy. It helps in enhancing the response time of weaponry. It is passive in nature and addressed with both eyes open, which helps in increased peripheral vision for an unlimited eye-relief and parallax free image. This parallax free image is created with a large and bright aiming reticle pattern allowing quick target acquisition particularly in close quarter combat situations.

OFB prototype of 7.62x51mm assault rifle :

This rifle is based on insas 1c rifle that was developed from the experience derived from excalibur and insas rifle.It has a machined receiver,45 degree gas block, side folding metal butt stock and rotating bolt.It looks like it will have the Indian SLR1A1 rifle magazine.

I don't think Jaitley will approve foreign rifles when we have this. No self-respecting army worth its salt fights with foreign rifles

For the first time I can say our own made assault rifle has so good finish. As the rifle is already based on reliable platforms I would hope that it clears all barriers and gets issued to our troops.

Well,I'm happy with the decision of inducting 1A SLR's magazine in 7.62 NATO Excalibur Mk.1-C.
Metal over fiber anytime.

Hope the new 762 NATO procurement is not delayed because of this, this new one has atleast an year of development trials ahead of it.

OFB can target for the remaining million rifles tender, assuming all rifles would be 762 NATO.

The only reasons i have problems with specifically SLR magazines, because they are heavy ..

As much weight can be shed is good for soldiers, The rounds are already heavy ..

============

The weapon is already in trails, Its a similar design compare to INSAS 1b1 most of the parts are common it will take lesser time ..

@ Kunal Biswas
Sir,
How much is SLR magazine heavier than other comparable magazine available in the world? Isn't that weight negligible? Or can't OFB guys convert it to lighter one overnight?

One FN-FAL magazine loaded with 20 rounds weighs 1 lb 9 oz. This is from a British Army perspective vide external forum. Indian made FN-FAL (SLR) clones' magazines would be close to this weight.

A fully-loaded 1B1 magazine weight somewhere between 380gms - 450gms, Where as a fully loaded SLR magazine is nearly 800gms ..

Something one has to keep in mind, These magazine increase the rifle weight significantly almost feels like a kg, And traditionally a solider carry 4 of these on his chest rigs also ..

I cannot comment about others as i have not fired or hold them in person ..

Inaugurated exhibition of DPSU products at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, May 30, 2017 ..

The rifle is MK1C in 7.62x51mm ..
A decent lookign product, let's hope it is adopted and this foreign rifle circus ends once and for all, there is simply no reason to go outside for (non-specialist) small arms.
Would be good if they had extended the P-rail along the entire length instead of having the break above the handguard.

+ the buttstock is still a weak spot.

Ok @Kunal Biswas dada Understandable,but 7.62 NATO would create a lot of recoil while firing,so don't you think it would be nice to have a heavier weapon that can make recoil 'manageable' during prolong firefights?

To me,It is that we're going back to 'Modern Battle Rifle' concept with this variant of Mk.1C,somewhat similar to FN SCAR-H,H&K 417 and MPT-76.

Feel free to enlighten me,dada,as i'm always eager to learn new things.

More than firefight, Most of the time soldiers carry them and its ammunition, Its not ideal to make soldiers heavy this will reduce his efficiency in long run, Let it be long marches or prolong firefights ..

MK1C is indeed in that direction with other modern derivatives chambered in 7.62nato on the globe, But unlike others MK1C is going to arm one of the largest army on the globe fighting actively on various fronts against some of the nasty challenges ..

----

In-depth :

In an firefight or even at range, shooting a firearm continuously takes its toll on user, With every shot one feels recoil and he has to re-correct his sights & posture and keep his focus on sights all time, Every time user press the trigger it exhaust him a little physically, larger the recoil quicker the user exhausts his ability to maintain continual fire ..

In a firefight a solider armed with a 5.56mm can shoot more rounds, more accurately without much exhaustion compare to a solider armed with 7.62nato rifle, This is something important in conventional warfare to pin your enemy down and render him inefficient, A single hit will put a solider out of action or degrade him to such an extend that his ability to return fire is more or less futile, This is something a benefit of using 5.56mm in a conventional firefight ..

Regardless how much engineering done to reduce the recoil of a 7.62nato rifle, It won`t be same as 5.56mm rifle, There are reasons we left SLR long ago ..

==================
==================

Not much as INSAS 1B1, And used it long back ..

The quality was tolerable, these rifles are abused alot and still functioning ..

@Kunal Biswas, your explanation regarding the advantages of 5.56 mm over 7.62 nato was quite illuminating. In spite of these advantages why IA is insisting on a calibre change? Does 7.62 nato has some advantages over 5.56 mm in the plain of Punjab or desert of Rajasthan? Very enthusiastic to learn more.
