@Kunal Biswas what is the life of insas rifle? and why can't we use steel bullets coated in copper instead of lead slugs in copper jacket which is costlier?
We dont have luxury of unlimited bullets. Soldiers should be deciplined in shooting. One bullet one enemy is what we tought. Why can't we employ these types of sysytems in our army
Oh shit...! one bullet for one enemy is like one chocolate for one children ...this dosen't work these days we need huge fire powerWe dont have luxury of unlimited bullets. Soldiers should be deciplined in shooting. One bullet one enemy is what we tought.

Please read the following article it clearly says the IWI was selected for Indian army carbines tender.
All failed in technical trails, Not one passed ..
They failed in repeated trails, ET news sounds more lobby influenced from IWI ..
Hardip are you soldier? Do you have first hand experience of INSAS gun.India looking for... that what they want..
Otherwise our soldiers fight with crap weapons..
( koi jadu ki chhadi la ke do in mahapurusho ko..)

here is the MOD tender for steel core bullets which our **** OFB can't manufactureWe use steel core bullets, 1B1 life is infinite it will shoot straight even after 100 years if well maintained ..
==========================A question - has Indian Army finally moved towards 7.62mm rifle and dump INSAS, Excaliber and all other rifles with 5.56mm caliber? A few media reports suggest so.
This change in less than 20 years from switching from FAL 7.62 is a bad judgement excercised by the army twenty years back. It cost the country 1.1 million rifles at the cost of $9 billion. It will cost the same or may be more to switch over back to 7.62.
The only good reason advanced in early nineties was that 5.56 is a lighter rifle and ammunition is lighter, hence a soldier can carry a lot more. That argument that 5.56 rifle bullet kills less wounds more, hence wounded soldier requires more of his buddies to take him to safety, reduces the effectiveness of a squad. It seems all these copy paste arguments of American infantry thinking have stuck in Indian army's mind. They fooled themselves.
Now, the import lobby is overjoyed with this decision. In one stroke, INSAS, Excaliber is out and somebody with import connections will be in.

Then why can't we replace pkm machine guns with 7.62 nato so we can make our own ammunitionIf you can read, Its a tender for 7.62mmx54r rounds, OFB makes 7.62x51mm NATO ..
SUPPLY OF 1,00,69,996 QUANTITY OF CARTRIDGE SA 7.62MM WITH STEEL CORE BULLET, RIMMED
AMMUNITION FOR GUN MACHINE 7.62MM PKT MOUNTED ON T-72 TANK
Sir, that is the philosophy of the Indian Army. COIN calls for a different approach. Rashtriya Rifles, although technically part of the Army, operates differently. They are doing what BSF and JKP used to do when militancy started. We dont have luxury of unlimited bullets. Soldiers should be deciplined in shooting. One bullet one enemy is what we tought.
Both have their merits and demerits. It can also be a matter of doctrine.
