Why are we talking about INSAS so much when it has been dumped after a long to and fro arguments.

Because INSAS gave us JVPC, MCIWS and IAR 7.62 NATO guns as subsidiary programs. Now we have SSS Defence giving us excellent guns.
None of the mentioned made into the Army use. INSAS will be gone in three years, so will the others.

OFB's new customer is MHA. Orders will remain.
No one is ordering Insas in noticable figures. The only orders they get are for Ak variants, that too in low numbers. More number of superior quality Bulgarian ones are bought compared to the numbers ordered by MHA snd State forces from OFB.

Ghatak Assault Rifle - ITBP, CRPF, SSB

JVPC - CISF, CRPF

7.62 NATO Ishapore Assault Rifle - Next MHA Battle Rifle

Read the title of the thread, INDIAN SMALL ARMS SYSTEM : Literally means Indian design and made firearms.

that`s why we are talking about INSAS.

1B1 its still is our primary rifle in Army, You want to talk about something else their are other thread for it.

============

Don`t confuse AK replacing INSAS 1b1 rather 9mm carbine.

So 6.5 lakh Ak203s going to replace Sterlings alone? CRPF bought brand new 35K BUlgarian Aks and distributed them in Naxal areas just to replace remaining sterlings alone? U unaware of CRPFs policy of gradual replacement of Insas in naxal areas with Aks?
Ok forget all these people here are mentioning about Aks due to continuatuon of some earlier posts and not out of random. Please dont parachute yourself out of nowhere and drop such comments.

INSAS Excalibur Variant will now be used solely by the MHA. Indian Army will use the SIG 716 for its Northern Command / Eastern Command and the AK 203 for the rest in place of all INSAS rifles currently in service.

These decommissioned INSAS will go to police units still using the 7.62x51 variant Lee Enfield SMLE Mk.III (Ishapore 2A1) and drilling a hole in the gas port of surplus Burst Fire INSAS 1B/1B1 stock could deactivate them for use by civilian enthusiasts much like WW2 M1 Garands and M1 Carbine sold here without Prohibited Bore License.

AK always replaced 9mm carbine and AK itself seen for carbine role in CT ops within RR and was followed by paramilitary and armed police afterwards, this is something well known and talked and posted multiple times in this thread back in 2012, lurk and read before posting reply.

When those AK get into service i would know before you ..

Iron Sights

The Iron sights are most interesting feature on this Assault rifle and perhaps impressed me the most, The front sights are H&K style front sights, Where as the rear sight is hybrid AK and INSAS 1B1 leaf sight though not fold-able.

This gives you much faster and better sight picture, Basically gives you what INSAS 1B1 gives you with its leaf sight, Such a feature will boost confidence while engaging targets at medium range with far better accuracy then using open sights trying to find the tip between the rear sights.

This feature also free the solider from getting new training while adapting to new weapon at range which is solider friendly.

=============

The rear sight has adjustable wind age and elevation, The range can be set to 1000 meters but effectiveness of the weapon is best 300 meters which is best for Close combat and majority of regular engagements.

=================

Pistol Grip

This grip is originally from Amogh Carbine, Unlike 1B1`s or more accurately AK47`s grip from 60s, This grip is designed keeping ergonomic in mind. The grip is angled and has slots or curves for pre positioning of fingers to place in, Its texture has tiny embedded dots all over its body for a tight and non slippery griping.

Its really ergonomic, My fingers fits really well into the curves, Despite its made of fiber the texture on it gives a rubbery feeling, The grip is so well a fit that i am sure if i pour water over it my hand wont slip out of it. This design is a major step up for soldiers who operate in marine and tropical conditions.

The only downside i find, It could have been a little larger and wider in size, But its not very short either and will work better than others in service anyways.
