Build quality of the Trichy seems far better than the Ghatak. I wonder why doesn't the army use these as a stop gap arrangement till the new assault rifles are inducted. Definatlely better than the older AK-47s used by counter insurgency units
The AKs used by IA are field tested, I don't think they would replace it with untested rifles like Ghatak or Thrichy.

The Ak's already in service aren't bad tho. They are effective and reliable and that is what matters the most at the end of the day. For 21st century needs like mounting weapon sights or better adjustable stocks etc, we can always turn to companies like FAB Defence to upgrade the Ak stockpile we have everywhere. They do a pretty good job tbh.

I still cringe at how the butt stock of JVPC doesn't extend *straight*! Especially when firing in *auto* the stock bends due to the force - this could drastically affect the accuracy!

According to Saurav Jha, Galil ACE 52 is the rifle to watch out for as far as the fast track 7.62 x 51 mm procurement for the Army is concerned. Whereas, OFB's R-2 7.62 x 51 mm rifle has demonstrated a satisfactory stoppage rate. (2400 rounds with 3 carbon cleanings)
