This was the original model envisaged in initial design phase. Its more of an artistic impression rather then the original one.
Sandeep just put up a new thumbnail of the new 7.62x51 OFB rifle.

Looks promising, but i think they should've done similar thing with MCIWS/AAR as well i.e. modifying it to accept FAL magazines and fire 7.62 x 51mm NATO rounds, basically an AR-15 variant to 'compete' with the kalashnikov variant.

Technically the OFB 7.62*51 is only a year or less old, what we saw in videos was a prototype. No doubt in saying JVPC, Amogh, have come a long way and changed significantly look wise. The battle rifle shall change a lot too!Looks promising, but i think they should've done similar thing with MCIWS/AAR as well i.e. modifying it to accept FAL magazines and fire 7.62 x 51mm NATO rounds, basically an AR-15 variant to 'compete' with the kalashnikov variant.
Here is Rock Rivers Arms LAR-8 rifle, which can accept both inch pattern (.308) and metric pattern (7.62 x 51mm NATO) FAL magazines, has fully ambidextrous controls including fire selector, magazine release and bolt release (ACR type bolt release at the end of trigger guard).
I would say, take this lower receiver and made something similar to this which could be put on MCIWS/AAR 7.62 x 51mm NATO variant.
Ah i never said make a polymer lower, but take inspiration from that design and make something similar.Technically the OFB 7.62*51 is only a year or less old, what we saw in videos was a prototype. As for lower reciever made of polymer, a milled alluminium alloy is more reliable to take temperature and heating abuse. Polymer may give you lightness but under ectreme conditions their reliability comes under question. If we go for more sophisticated polymers then cost shall way too beyond budget.
I believe let them do something of their own now, last time they took inspiration they ended up making probably the most badmouhed rifle in this country! There's nothing wrong, in taking inspiration from leading designs, and then adapting those to Indian conditions, in a designed and made in India platform......
Talking of inspiration, from leading designs...I mentioned SCAR H in a earlier post as an almost perfect design...
But the COLT 901 Modular Platform, in piston variant, is also a very good design......Specially, as the same lower receiver can be host to many diffrent platforms in 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56x45 and any other (by changing magzine Adaptors and bolt / barrel components) ....Also, any design which is compatible with AR-15 platform has a huge advantage in accessories, optics and many other areas....That way the design can keep on evolving for many years to come, by adapting the latest from AR15 new developments...

Even the latest Russian rifles like AK12 , RPK-16 have adapted most of the standard features of AR 15 type rifles while retaining the long stroke action.....which shows the merit of adapting the best proven features in case of small arms development(Evolution rather than Revolution)
This needs side 45 degree red dot sight with attachment and Cheek guard.

well that's a matter of P-rail and nothing else. This needs side 45 degree red dot sight with attachment and Cheek guard.
yeah.. the new 7.62 NATO rifle has really soft recoil. All that is required is some essential cosmetics. p-rails, well placed ambi fire selector and mag catch. A bolt release, folding and extensible butt and some cheek rests.HK 417 looks like recoil more than OFB 7.62*51:
OFB 7.62*51:
All those things are included into the MCIWS/AAR,then why don't rechamber it into 7.62 x 51mm NATO instead of doing jugaads with this weapon ?yeah.. the new 7.62 NATO rifle has really soft recoil. This weapon ain't a jugaad, not closely to anything. The muzzle break is from INSAS that too shall change. IMBEL of brazil took six years , similarly MPT-76 of turkey took 8 years, both of them started with negative reviews initially despite the fact both of them were 5.56 initially, but both are standard issue in respective army. All those things are included into the MCIWS/AAR,then why don't rechamber it into 7.62 x 51mm NATO instead of doing jugaads with this weapon ?
Going through the pages of this thread, I noticed this picture. I believe this is the only picture of Excalibur with Picatinny rail on top of upper receiver. More interesting is the squirrel cage type flash hider on the rifle , which is different from the regular pepperpot style flash hider on INSAS. I also believe this was the best looking and comfortable furniture till date and would have gone well with the milled aluminium body on the Mk1C rifle.
Excalibur has many variants including a 16inch one too, I was not aware of MK1 variant in 1B1 hand guard ..
The usual known facts like who made it, it could penetrate 3.5mm armour, easy service, etc. Handed over to CRPF by RM through HM, etc.
Someone tell me what is said about JVPC..
Like Kunal posted it already has options for different Butt Stock, some with cheek guard also. Depends on which Army selects........The prototypes, however, will continue to feature in production butt-stock. The one seen here is from Excalibur's inventory.standard good quality butt stock with cheek guard
