It is obvious MSMC round is smaller and more powerful than 5.7X28mm, hence higher velocity..

Read the performance of MAR round and OFB report about new round, And yes a tango can be downed with a close single shot from a 5.56mm ( 50ms )..

And the velocity, is it comparable to P90's? And, will a single 5.56x30mm hit at close range be enough to bring down a terrorist in close range just as the 7.62x39mm round is at long range ie ~300m?

Trichy AR is designed for Paramilitary, Paramilitary use FAL / SLR and Trichy is based on SLR to reduce training on new Rifle..

For Army, A version of 7.62M43 Insas would be logical..

The ideal weapon for the general army and paramilitary is the Trichy AR which hopefully is quickly fixed and modified to have a clean collapsible butt stock, rails for a lot of mounts and reduced rate of fire. The Army shouldn't be looking at 5.56 calibers, time for a change to standard AK or above rounds. New rounds like 6.5 Grendel or 6.8mm SPC are also welcome.

Kalantak Micro Assault Rifle is a gas operated automatic, air cooled, folding butt Rifle. It is a very power full, light weight & compact weapon for CQB & Personnel Defence Weapon Role. The weapon uses the same ammunition (5.56x45mm) as used in Rifle/ LMG, thus reducing the logistic problems in having different kind of ammunitions for different role of weapons. It's design and mechanism is simple and having the capability to accommodate the various modern optical sights like Red Dot Sight, Holographic, MARS etc, available internationally in the market. The weapon is having much lesser recoil and muzzle jump than any of the Assault Rifles, and therefore it is having more hitting probability in auto mode of firing than any other Assault Rifles. Due consideration has been given for Reliability, Ergonomics and Aesthetics in designing of the Weapon. In all these discussions, 5.56 or 6.68 or 7.62 calibre dominate ...

For a good stopping power and wound ballistics 9 mm have dominated the scene since WWII.

No one discusses 9mm based weapon as a weapon and calibre of choice ??

Say why should not IA opt for 9mm based rifles, carbines and pistols ??

AFAIK 9mm has very little propellant which makes the ball loose kinetic energy fast and gets affected by gravity. Hence 9mm has very limited range.

7.62mm, 5.56mm, 9mm

The mass of kalantak is much less than that of Insas. I think @Kunal Biswas dada would be the best person to ask regarding this,,,,

Kalantak weight has to be less than INSAS as it feature shorter barrel so does other properties such as fold-able butt..

We dont use NATO 5.56mm anymore...

We use OFB 64gr 5.56mm FMJ from a 18.3 inch with 1 in 7.8inch rifle twist Heavy Barrel..

Projectile speed at 3050fps..

Hell Lethal in close so does long range, One shot one kill.. :cool2:

guys what do you think of the chinese 5.8*42mm round whose performance the chinese claim is much better than the nato 5.56*45mm round.
