I doubt that 76mm will be part of the ship, note post #1254 ..

According to specs It is said, but very doubtful..

An Indian built A/C Carrier, we have truly come a long way....
Some observations
2. 76mm gun is a General Purpose Weapon, Air Defence is provided by carrierborne A/C and Barak-8 SAM, Close in defence against missile threat will be covered by AK 630 Gatling cannon. This is some serious shipborne defensive firepower for what is essentially a medium carrier. .

@nirranj the angled deck portion is yet to be completed.
So it means that now the carrier is not 60 Mts in width as many reports suggest... with the addition of the Angled flight deck and other attachments it will become 60 Mts...

V22 is good Damn Machine .... We can say Cross Country Breed of HELO and AERO .. But India can't afford it.. More over Maintenance and training is Huge..

Uses of V22 for India are minimal .. If lose One V22 in any crash Thats it

Wow, don't want to say to much now because it is early but good job on the construction of the hull. The welding, fitment and smoothness of the steel is good and like I said before India can be as good as any country if they focus on indigenous projects with funding and manpower and keep the politics crap out of it.

Good job CSL!!!!!!!:thumb:

This launch is a significant leap in our technical prowess. We have gradually increased our engineering and industrial reliability.

Some observations I had from all the news I read about this carrier and relating it to OUR Navy's strive to be a reliable and professional navy,

1) The nation gets independence in 1947 (in the preceding centuries we have lost our traditional knowledge and capabilities and industries wiped out),

2) The Navy was still a Royal Navy Legacy, consisting of 32 aging vessels good for coastal patrol.

3) INS Vikrant commissioned into the Navy in 1961

4) PN attacks Dhwarkha and India responds with increased coastal patrol.

5) Vikrant enforces successful blockade of Bay of Bengal, India emerges triumphant in the war.

6) INS Viraat joins Indian Navy after 28 years in service with the Royal Navy.

7) INS Vikrant was decommissioned in 1997 after 36 years in service.

8) INS Vikrant (IAC-1) approved in 2003.

9) INS Vikramaditya Purchase and refit approved in 2004.

10) INS viraat completes 50 years in service in 2009, A glory to the engineering capability of India in keeping a WW2 era hull operational into the 21'st century.

11) INS Vikrant Keel laid in 2009.

13) INS vikramaditya final sea trials begin in 2013,

14) INS vikrant launched into the waters.

As we can see, our capabilities have grown steadily, we had the Vikrant for 36 years in service, the Viraat in now in its 26th year with Indian Navy (and overall 54th year of naval service) and now we have launched our indigenous carrier.

This is a testimony for our engineering and Industrial growth. This is a proud moment to rejoice... After nearly a millennium from the great Chola expeditions into the Indian ocean, now we are making strides into becoming a blue water navy, capable of not only defending but also taking the fight to the enemy, whomsoever he may be...

China media: Indian aircraft carrier

The INS Vikrant was launched amid chanting from ancient Hindu scriptures at the Kochi shipyard in the southern state of Kerala
State media are playing down any potential threat from India's new aircraft carrier, but urge China to speed up the construction of its own fleet.

India on Monday unveiled its first home-built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, from a shipyard in southern Kerala state.

"India's indigenous research and development of submarines and aircraft carriers will still need some time to mature, and the navy's combat capability also needs to be improved. India still has a long way to go to fulfil its dream of having the 'world's second-largest navy'," concludes the Guangming Daily.

"The shockwaves in China towards the launch of India's aircraft carrier is smaller than the recent launch of Japan's quasi-aircraft carrier 'Izumo'... To the Chinese, Japan is the biggest threat from the periphery, and ordinary Chinese often will not think of India," says the Global Times.

"There is no arms race between China and India. The main impact on us from the launch of India's domestic aircraft carrier is that China's indigenous aircraft carrier plan needs to be accelerated," it adds.

However, some experts warn that India's new carrier and submarine could heighten regional tensions.

"The successive high-profile appearances of India's domestic aircraft carrier and nuclear submarine obviously have a political hand behind them. India's ambitions not only lie in the Indian Ocean, it even wants to deepen intervention in the South China Sea issue, so as to carry out strategic containment against China," Zhao Gancheng, director of the Asia-Pacific Research Centre at the Shanghai Institutes of International Studies, tells the Oriental Morning Post.

Re: IAC-I: Will be delayed by 3 yrs

A definite proof of why IN did not hesitate in paying extra for the Gorky and why IN defended Gorky's acquisition irrespective of the price hike.
what proof? Seen the photos?

The biggest advantage being Mig-29K is ready for combat, LCA Mk2 is a paper plane.

There will be massive differences in specs. IMA architecture, AESA, new engine, greater T/W etc on LCA.

Mig-29K has greater endurance, over 2200Km compared to LCA's sub 2000Km range. Apart from that, Mig-29K has 5 wet points over LCA's 3 wet points. Mig-29K has greater weapons load in terms of hardpoints (7 vs 9).
Hi, I have a question. What advantages will Mig29K provide over NLCA Mk-II? There doesn't seem to be much difference in specs.
The big advantage of Tejas mk-2 is it is will have asea radar along with less than half the clean config RCS of Mig-29 and it is fuel fraction not wet points that will determine the range, and greater endurance.

And with way lower wing loading ,and higher TWR,Tejas mk-2, has some edge as well
