But how is this possible that Barak-8 is yet to be tested when this report says that it is already getting mated with Israeli warships?

Israeli navy equipping warships with Indo-Israeli Barak-8 missile system: report | idrw.org
..and India is equipping three destroyers and an aircraft carrier with the system, doesn't mean it is going to be operational anytime soon ;)

Here's the original Israeli report.

Also, Ajay Shukla says once in India, we will install the AK-630 CIWS.

Wasn't Viki supposed to have 8 CADS-N-1 Kashtan CIWS?
Still we can't assume which kinds of defensive Weapons are Installed in Viky ..as per some Pictures It clear Kashtan CIWS and ZiF-121 Launchers are in Vikky But don't know it's numbers whether 4 or 8

Sir But how .., Vikky get fully operational by fall of 2013 where Barak 8 will ready after the 2015 ..So does She operate without proper SR/MR Air defences or does the CIWS handle all the Job till the arrival of Barak

HSL floats out three tugs, to be delivered to Navy by year-end | idrw.org

Three 50 tonne bollard pull tugs being built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) for the Indian Navy were successfully floated out from the covered building dock on Friday.

The tugs will be delivered to the Navy by the year-end. The whole floating and undocking evolution requiring highly precise coordination and control was executed with customary élan and professionalism at a simple ceremony here.

The tugs are being built to meet IRS classification using in-house design. The tugs are 34.55 meters in length, 11.25m in breadth and draught of 4.5m. They are powered by two Wartsila diesel engines with Voith Schneider propulsion system with a speed of 12 knots.

A HSL release said on Saturday that all-out efforts were underway to complete balance works and deliver two tugs by September and third one by December, 2013 to meet the requirement of INS Vikramaditya, which is scheduled to be commissioned later this year. The function was attended by the Chairman, officers, classification societies, the representatives from Hindustan Shipyard Labour & Staff Union, officers associations and SC and ST Welfare Association.

INS Vikramaditya to arrive in India early next year | idrw.org

After a long wait When the Russian origin aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya arrives in India early next year, it will not have two of its on-board weapon systems–a long-range surface-to-air missile and an air defence gun.

While the Navy hopes to install the air-defence gun within a few months after the warship's arrival, installation of the missile system would take more time as it is still under development.

The 45,000-tonne aircraft carrier, originally known as Admiral Gorshkov, is currently undergoing trials at Barents Sea off Russia under the watchful eyes of a team of Indian Navy officers. It is expected to be handed over to India around November-December, a year behind schedule.

When the carrier arrives in Karwar in 2014, it will not have the AK-360 close-in weapon system capable of creating a protective shield around the ship by firing 6,000 rounds per minute.

In addition, the ship would not have the Barak long-range surface-to-air missile that is being co-developed by India and Israel for naval use.

Both the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation are involved in the Rs 2,606-crore development programme, which is scheduled to be
completed by 2015. "The CIWS (AK 360) will be fitted to Vikramaditya on its arrival. But the LR-SAM would be done only at the first refit of the carrier," Vice-Chief of the Navy Vice-Admiral R K Dhowan said.

The reason for not fitting the CIWS, said an officer, was certain contractual obligations. Moreover, integration at the Russian yard would have shot up the project cost.

The LR-SAM is a different story. Once ready, the missile would be first fitted on to a Kolkata-class destroyer, which is being constructed at Mazgaon dock under Project-15 A. Only after installing the surface-to-air missile to a 15A ship will it be integrated with INS Vikramaditya. Delivery of the first Kolkata-class destroyer, however, is delayed.

The first of the three ships in the Rs 45,000 crore P-15A will be ready only in 2014, though originally it was scheduled to be delivered to the Navy by 2013 end, sources said.

Meanwhile, INS Vikramaditya crossed a speed barrier of 30 knots during the trial. Last year, the Kiev-class aircraft carrier failed to attain its top speed due a technical glitch in the propulsion system.

The trouble happened because of the use of low-grade Chinese firebricks in boiler insulation, instead of asbestos. This prevented Sevmash ship yard from handing over the warship to the Navy on December 4, 2012, as originally scheduled.

INS Vikramaditya won't have air defence system for now

The Navy's much-delayed Vikramaditya aircraft carrier that is set to join the fleet in December could be vulnerable to air attacks as it will operate without air defence system for several months, if not a few years, a top Navy officer confirmed.

The carrier, currently undergoing final trials in Russia, will not have an air defence system when it begins its long journey to Indian shores in November and would be retrofitted with a close in weapon system (CIWS) only after its first refit or servicing in an Indian shipyard, according to Vice Chief of Navy Staff Vice Admiral R K Dhowan.

A CIWS system is needed on board large warships as the last protection measure against incoming missiles as well as aircraft. However, there is a deficiency of CIWS in India with the licence manufacturing of the AK 630 systems having just commenced. While the Navy has not specified when the CIWS would be fitted on board, the Vice Chief has said it would be integrated when the warship is scheduled for its first minor refit.

An internal audit report drawn up in 2009 came down heavily against the Navy for poor planning saying that as per plans, the CIWS would only be available by 2017, leaving the ship vulnerable to air attacks.

Even more alarmingly, the Vikramaditya will not even have a surface-to-air missile defence system on board for long range protection. The protection suite of the warship was planned to be the Long Range Surface to Air Missile (LRSAM) system — a joint collaboration between the Navy, Israel and DRDO.

However, this project too has faced huge delays and the system can only be fitted on board the Vikramaditya by 2016 at the earliest.

Lease a few Phalanx systems until you get something better? Easy bolt-on, so simple it can even be bodged onto merchantmen (or so I've heard at least).

On an aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" in the coming days will begin testing aviation hardware ship
TSAMTO, August 2. On an aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" in the coming days will begin testing aviation hardware ship (ASCT) with flights of MiG-29K. They will be held in the Barents Sea, the press-service of JSC "PO" Sevmash ".
The ship left the "Sevmash" July 3 for factory test run (ZHI) in the White Sea. "There were conducted overflights of electronic weapons systems, testing ASCT, measurements of electric fields," - said the head of production of military-technical cooperation, "Sevmash" Sergey Novoselov.

According to the specialists of the company, the most important element of the first stage was to check ZHI main power plant, which included a high-speed and maneuverability test ship in the White Sea. On the night of 27 to 28 July the aircraft carrier came on full speed, has overcome certain technical specifications of a maximum speed of 29 knots and reached a speed of 29, 2 knots. Tests were carried out successfully.

All work on the ship are controlled by Russian Navy leadership and the Indian Navy. Thus, in early July, "Vikramaditya" has visited the state chairman of the selection committee, the deputy commander of the Baltic Fleet, Rear Admiral Sergei Popov. He met with representatives of the Indian side and discussed the schedule of tests and the organization of the practice of Indian naval sailors.

Currently, sea trials, "Vikramaditya" are under the supervision of the Chairman of the State Commission for acceptance of a foreign customer ship of the Indian Navy Admiral Harry Kumar. At a meeting on the go ZHI aircraft carrier, the Admiral praised the efforts of "PO" Sevmash "in a lot of work on the project for the past 8 months and noted the coherence of Indian and Russian experts.

On board the "Vikramaditya", together with the Indian crew is about 1,700 people. It is planned to arrive at the ship about 170 Indian crew of sailors to pass the practical part of the training and participation in priemoperedatochnyh tests, according to the press-service of JSC "PO" Sevmash "

"Vikramaditya" will take on the deck of the first aircraft
Aleksander Emelianenko
On Monday, August 5, the aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" in support of the forces and means of the Northern Fleet has started working out joint tasks with carrier-based aircraft.
The night before, when the carrier was still on the roads Severomorsk, reached by telephone from the ship responsible deliverer Igor Leonov. He said that today in the morning to begin flying the MIGs with a touch of the deck, and in the afternoon, if the weather does not intervene plans, it is possible and the first landing.
To our knowledge, it will perform a chief pilot of MiG Mikhail Belyaev. A year ago, around the same time, together with a test pilot, Hero of Russia Nikolai Diorditsa he flew around the deck "Vikramaditya". The first successful landing of the MiG was held on July 28. And all test pilots in the July-August 2012 completed 517 missions, 41 and 41 landing takeoff from the deck of aircraft carrier, checking by aircraft, refueling equipment and flight support, samoletopodemniki, zaderzhniki and arresting gear.

Work Wing and means to ensure the ship as a whole does not cause any complaints from commissioning team and representatives of the Indian Navy as a customer. However, to complete the test in its entirety, including perform takeoffs and landings of aircraft at night then failed due to a serious failure in the ship power plant: do not take the maximum temperature refractory protection of all eight boilers .
As a result, the aircraft carrier last fall back on the "Sevmash", where for nine months with the participation of experts of the Baltic factory (manufacturer of boilers for "Vikramaditya") to perform complex maintenance and repair work. Just missed the deadline, and on July 3 with the updated aircraft carrier boilers went into the White Sea. On the eve of the day of the Navy, consistently passing all previous exams, went to a crucial test - under normal load and full load displacement , maximum speed of 29.3 knot .
According to previously announced plans, the full range of tests involving the wing and seamanship Indian crew is scheduled for completion by October 15. After that, given a month to eliminate minor comments. The act of transfer of aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" Indian Navy to be signed on November 15.

Avianosets "Vikramaditya" developed at the test speed of over 29 knots
Aleksander Emelianenko
The best gift to the day of the Navy presented yourself and loved ones and to hand over the command crew of aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya", which takes control trials in the White Sea. On the night of Sunday, July 28, its main power plant has been bred for maximum power - the temperature in all eight boilers to raise the upper limit, and they showed reliable performance. As a result of the giant surface ship displacement of more than 40,000 tons of the course gave 29 , 3 nodes, thus confirming and even exceeding the design specifications.
One of the first learned the news veteran "Sevmash" Edward Leonov - the father of responsible deliverer "Vikramaditya" Igor Leonov.
- We are very worried for my son and all those with him on board the aircraft carrier - admitted Edward Petrovich. - And when the dead of night on July 28 we have the phone rang, my wife and I had no doubts: it is Igor. On the very first words became clear - the kids all turned out! And when you consider that at the time of check measurements aircraft carrier was moving against the wind and against the current, then these 29 , 3 pull all thirty knots, if not more ...
The first information about it has leaked to the Indian media, although the courts of the Russian official confirmation has been received. That, however, is clear: the aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" belongs to the Indian Navy, under their control refitted and tested. Our partners in military-technical cooperation on the rights of the customer decide - what to whom and when to report. This position we accept and treat with respect.
But, at the same time, it does not rejoice overall success of Russian shipbuilders with the family of shipbuilders Leonov, where the aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" bound for three generations?
The head of the dynasty - Edward P. Leonov - more than thirty years, built, tested and handed sailors submarine, and in the early 2000s was, as they say, thrown to the repair and renovation of the cruiser "Admiral Gorshkov" aircraft carrier in "Vikramaditya" has become almost Does not the main link between the engineering company and industry.
His son, an engineer, "Sevmash" Igor Leonov, who in June this year was fifty, in the forties was the deliverer responsible for that most difficult of "Sevmash" order. What is otvetsdatchik? On the one hand - the king, God and the military chief in one. And on the other - whipping boy and extreme in all situations when something does not fit, fails or just does not fit within the given timeframe.
Igor E., under whom worked in some periods of up to 3-4 thousand people went through it all. And not afraid to take on board his son Dmitri, who has already obtained the necessary specialty, a wife and son. Igor D. The fourth man in the dynasty Leonov, has not set foot on the deck of an aircraft carrier, but to stand on his feet and had learned with his mother and grandfather will come out of the sea to meet his father and grandfather. If all goes according to plan, test, "Vikramaditya", including the testing of military cooperation with carrier-based aircraft in the Barents Sea, completed in late August.
Recall that now passing the test - a kind of re-examination for the aircraft carrier, its commissioning team and all those who provide the supply of equipment, including the Baltic Shipyard, where boilers are made. In June - August of last year, "Vikramaditya" has already demonstrated themselves and their capabilities in the White and Barents Seas. Serious problems were found then in the boiler units. For their repair and removal of other identified remarks aircraft carrier returned 23 September 2012 at the "Sevmash" In the next nine months, it has been replaced (or rebuilt) fire-resistant protection of the eight marine boilers main power plant. At the same time addressed issues of repair of imported equipment.
Third of July, as scheduled, the aircraft carrier came to the White Sea. Were tested maneuvering and speed characteristics of the ship, circled the complex electronic equipment supporting aircraft. Here, in the White Sea, "Vikramaditya" has taken on board a large portion of the Indian crew and was fueled to go to the Barents Sea, where the trial will take place with the participation of carrier-based aircraft.
As explained in the press service of the Severodvinsk shipyard, the purpose of these tests - to control a ship's systems and equipment. Another important task - the practice of Indian crew. Its main part comes in Severomorsk August 3-4, and immediately moves to the aircraft carrier.
Full testing to be completed by October 15. After that, given a month to eliminate minor comments. Take-over of aircraft carrier "Vikramaditya" Indian Navy to be signed on November 15. After that, the ship under its own power, under the Indian crew and a small portion of Russia's acceptance team (led by Igor Leonov - such a request from the Indian side has already arrived) will travel to the place of permanent base on the Indian Ocean.
