Forget tunnels, just by looking at the design of the roads, you can conclude that the project design was substandard:
You can observe the same substandard and dangerous design issues in our expressways.
1. Clearly this infrastructure was done in a rush to accommodate G20 event.
2. Delhi PWD is under khujliwal.
3. Urban planning and road design including intersection planning, pedestrian safety and landscape design are all non-existent as there is no educated talent appointed to have ownership over such issues even in metropolitan cities.
4. Central and state governments think that urban development means adding more metro lines. They have zero plans for beautification of old city areas which is the #1 reason for foreign tourists.
5. Municipal bodies need to be able to generate billions in their own funds to develop cities to modern standards.
6. Redevelopment of railway stations and TOD is a good start but this is not enough. High streets for retail, large open squares for people to mix around, food streets, well planned parking in all these areas is all missing.
7. Riverfront development is barely there and city rivera are just one step above sewage.
Overall India needs close to a $1 trillion over 10 years to develop top 100-200 cities. I dont aee anything being done to raise money and put in place an institutional framework to rapidly develop cities from all angles.
This is a major area where the Modi government has 100%failed with no vision as well as futuristic thinking. For India to be vikasit wr need a large number of world class cities. Hope Modi in his 3rd term brings about a shaharmala. You cannot use your local contractors. You need big companies with world class experience in urban development and design executing these projects.
