Ya'll Nibbiars Maharashtra Cabinet is taking decision for the Inter City Broad Gague Metro Transit system all over the Maharashtra the first of this would be the Nagpur broad Gauge Metro with four routes of total length of 270 Kms and will not have the drawbacks of the NCR RRTS and will be more potent and heavy system than it's. And 1,020s of Km of systems is panned all over the state with a speed upto 200 KMs per hours. Then followed by Pune Broad Gague Metro 370 KM and finally MMR Broad Gague Metro 380 Kms.

What is the drawback of NCR RRTS? Is it because it is standard gauge? If so, can someone please explain to me the pros and cons of standard gauge and broad gauge and how they stack against each other and in what areas, they give greater benefits and detract the most?

Ya'll Nibbiars

1 . you can rapidly built the Broad gague with upgrading existing lines.

2 . The passenger capacity is much larger.

3 . Interoperability between standard and Inter City Metro Systems.

4 . Less costly to Implement as many existing lines would be upgraded.

5 . More Indeginious technology and Domestic firms will be benefited.

6 . Takes less time to be implemented.

7 . Lee's hurdle in Land aquacation.

8 . More funds could be diverted towards urban section of the routes.

9 . And could he implement in even Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

10 . The Inter operability with railways ensure maximum reach.

11 . Less costly to be maintained.

12 . Easier to be expanded at rapid phases.

Ya'll Nibbiars and in future every city in the Maharashtra with a population of 3,00,000 will be connected by the Broad Gague Metro using existing line being upgraded. And with a standard average speed of 160 Kms per hours. The Nagpur Broad Gague Metro will cost just 3,000 crores a fraction of the NCR RRTS which would cost 25,000 crores. And still will have greater passenger capacity.

Ya'll Nibbiars Where the Delhi Metro gone wrong the Mumbai Metro got it right. The station need to be like this. The Delhis looks like a glorified Railway stations. They could had hired renowned architect like the Mumbai Metro but they didn't.

Well Delhi Metro was the real first metro so they were a pioneering force. I guess they built on the knowledge and experience obtained from building and operating Delhi Metro and applied lessons learnt to Mumbai Metro.
Ya'll Nibbiars Most Delhi station still dont have platform train separation doors

Because they may not have the space for it built in and they need to figure out a way how to install them without disrupting the service or flow.

The idea for platform separation doors only came after operating the metro stations for a couple years and realizing such need for these things.

Ya'll Nibbiars The standartation if the Mumbai Metro Stations. And unlike Delhi Metro station, The Mumbai Metro station has a dedicated one floor for retail. So every station will have 20,000 Sq. Ft. of Retail space, the planned 300 station for the approved 450 Kms of Metro system will have 6,00,00,000 Sq. Ft. of Retail space that means Mumbai Metro will also be one of the largest reality space owner in India. That's will have a potential revenues of 1,500 crores annually.

Points 5,6,7,8,9,11,12 are completely false.
Point 3 is redundant, no one wants interoperability between rapid transit system and main line. Infact the point of building metros and RRTS, is their right of way.

The first real metro was Kolkata metro. It was fully underground and the entire tunnels were built using cut and cover technology. TBMs weren't present in that era.

It was only one line and only 10 km long. IMHO, It was a showcase metro but not a real metro system. It only became a real metro system after Delhi Metro started showing success and WB decided to expand the Kolkata metro to make it a true metro system.

Older lines that were built 10-15 years ago don’t have it, the newer ones have it. Blue line for example which I have used a lot doesn’t have it but those were built nearly 2 decades back.

Ya'll Nibbiars thats the problem unable to adapt and upgrade with the safety feature even then door separation was common all over the world. But they didn't implemented this.
So? It’s not that it makes any difference when rest of the lines have it.

Ya'll Nibbiars it makes the difference when most of the phase 1 and 2 lines which makes 60 percent of the entire systems and dont have safety features which are now standard in most metros.

Ya'll Nibbiars The Delhi Metro phase 3 station. And still rocking with the 20 years old designs.

Ya'll Nibbiars there is also yellow roof there but the design by a renowed firm versus kaam chalau station makes a difference in design. And mind you this Red Roof wala has already got few awards.

And this station are not fully done when fully completed will look like this.

The tender for solar pannel and green wall has been issued. All station in the system will boost this environment friendly features.
