The design phase for the engine may have ended or in the process of ending, along with the transmission. Once that is done they may start design phase of the tank, as is the norm. Hopefully we will see a prototype in a few years. What's the status of this program?? any updates or any progress in work ??
There was a leak in the media about the engine, so the Army has put a gag order on all departments related to the FMBT. The only news we have had so far is that the project is running as planned from the various interviews from DRDO.
The tank itself will be developed in stages. Like stage 1 tanks may come with hydro-pneumatic suspensions like on Arjun and will be upgraded to active suspensions later on. It is to have a 120mm smoothbore gun, so there will be more import options for shells, especially from Israel.
Lots of interesting stuff, like a new generation APS, but very little news. It is not out of the ordinary for us to know very little in the beginning. Once the tank is ready for production we will know more. That may be in 2020.
