I've always wondered why our SFs don't go after Brügger & Thomet APC series of rifles in 5.56 NATO // 7.62 NATO in place of all these SCAR and HK416-ish rifles (in name of SIG516) or so,

i mean both H&K and FN are messing around with us in name of all muh daanav adhikaar reee then just get firearms from a "neutral" nation like Switzerland that's been going along nice with us. Swiss sold us tonnes of SIG550 series rifles (551/552/553/556) and B&T MP9 machine pistol-SMGs in good numbers...heck MP9 has turned into de-facto replacement SMG for those 9mm "Carbines" in many units.

APC556 in 5.56x45mm NATO,of course

APC308 in .308/7.62x51mm NATO in two different barrel configurations, with longer one could be used as a DMR rifle

As one can see it's fully ambidextrous rifle with ambi fire selector, magazine releases and even bolt catches (above mag releases), feeds from STANAG // SR-25 pattern mags in respective calibers, has full length top rail and rails on 3-6-9 positions and a length-adjustable+folding buttstock.

Curiosity why would you choose B&T over SIG or Caracal ?

It's specific case,read again

instead of FN SCAR and HK416 - chhap weapons they could've gotten this because Swiss neutrality and stability of relations = uninterrupted supplies. While others like HK, FN etc are messing around with us in name of hooman rights nonsense.

Point here is taking advantage of our relations with the Swiss for a product that could serve as an alternative to SCAR/HK416 pattern weapons. We bought tonnes of B&T guns before (MP9) that's serving us well so why not give a chance to their assault rifles.

The Uniform needs to be changed. MARPAT should be the standard camo.

Also polymer body. It will be very lightweight. MP-9 has proved that B&T is up to the mark with respect to polymer frame.

Post 71 when have out SF para dropped in combat zone?
It's a good question. The only combat para drops we have done were in Korea and 1971.

However, if you count SHBO then its much more common eg: Raid on Jaffna University or even the 2019 counter-infiltration op by Para SF where 4 were killed.

We were close to para-dropping in Operation Cactus, but the force commander Brig Bulsara took call to disembark on the runway during the flight itself.

This is good news. I thought we didn't have a dedicated SF aviation unit. Can some of the more knowledgeable folks here comment whether this is true ? Wish NSG also gets such a unit !

Not exactly an SF aviation unit. They perform tasks of any AAC unit, but are usually the ones deputed to SF heliborne ops. Hence have built quite a bit of experience in that area. They can be used to transport other stuff too. And they are. They will truly become an SF aviation unit only when they are deputed to AFSOD.

Think of them as the Ghataks of AAC. Not institutionalized as an SF unit, unfortunately, but are better prepared for such ops than average AAC squadron.

The 301 is NOT an SOF unit. There are the primary rotary support in Kashmir. Just so happens that it's the SF that does Rotary insertion ops in the AO. So they work closely
