This was the height of our special operations capability ( after CIT J/X)

24 months 10 covert operations in other countries( hint not POK and not just Pakistan)

https://www.sundayguardianlive.com/...succeeded-shutting-core-army-intelligence-ops

Just 41 men. Imagine what the SOD may achieve
With CONgress now out of power, Doval and VKS now in the govt, who wants to bet a similar unit is already in existence and out there doing “bad” (for India’s neighbours ) things?

That such a unit is already in existence (after 2014) should be more of a fact than a gamble. The period of peace that Indian cities are witnessing (w.r.t to terror threats) is certainly not due to the lack of trying on the part of jihadis or for that matter a better police force compared to 5 years back.

I will pray for them if they have any intentions of taking this cutie for a cross border raid.
Absolutely foolish idea. The terrain is unimaginable. And the sound this cutie makes gives out the surprise half the distance away. These look good for photo ops. You'd be surprised to find these lying in units with a dust cover on or to move around lunch for the boys.

Govt should get rid of IPSes altogether.

Anyhow, there's no need for seperate service. The Assistant Commandants of BSF and other Central Police Forces are also recruited by UPSC and they should be placed at par with IPSes and given equal kind of promotional opportunities including commands of the forces. Actually, it is the politicians who want malleable IPS to head the forces.
I know about that, but the fact that majority of the people getting promoted fast or heading the paramilitaries are IPS officers. Also many a times they get posted to or transferred to paramilitaries directly from policing duties from cities. These things will only be stopped when we make paramilitaries an entirely different cadre where IPS are not posted

Cool! Such a shame the X5s are being gradually phased out of service and have been replaced by these cheap looking Fortuners.

Hopefully SPG goes for the H7X to replace their Safaris in a couple of years.
Why being ashamed of it? If these vehicles do the job effectively in a way expected from them then its totally fine. Why buy expensive vehicles just for the sake of luxury or showoff

The BMWs are also manufactured in India (CKD route) with more than 50% localisation. Cannot say the same about the security editions of these vehicles. As for the H7X replacing the Fortuner, I do not see that happening anytime soon as
1.) Its underpinned by a monocoque chassis.
2.) Its a very new platform that has yet to prove its worth.
3.) The Fortuners are quite new themselves and it makes no sense (financially and logistically) replacing them so soon into their service lives.

The way I see it, Indian companies simply do not have wherewithal (yet) to make a vehicle good enough for ferrying a head of state. Tata shows a lot of promise and maybe in the next 5 years, it may get there. Until then, the Sentinel is an excellent choice. A proven product that is technically Indian.
Armoured x5 are imported and are not made in India. Also the X5s are only esembled in India with the majority of parts like engine, transmission, suspension etc are all imported. Parts worth Almost 80-90% of the car is still imported.

Like I said, I don't know about the security edition of these vehicles but the regular cars are assembled here via the CKD route with over 50% localisation in terms of volume as well as value. The Engine, transmission and the suspension of even the new 7 series are all assembled in India with a lot of the components being sourced from Indian vendors. I could go on and on about the merits and the effects of this but this thread is not the place for that discussion.

As I have always said, our SF units have been operating outside India in several hot countries for quite some time.
Apologies if this has already been discussed but what exactly are our commandos doing in those countries? I can understand our role in Afghanistan and hence the presence of our Special Forces there but apart from that, how does deploying our commandos in other hot zones further our national interest?

Deployment of SF outside India other than UN is never disclosed and as such let's not discuss detaila on open fora.

Those are not SF units...Here a few people just shoot in the blind.

Anyone calling them commandos or SF unit has no idea about them.

what makes you say people are shooting in the blind?

I can tell you for a fact that SF serves consulate protection missions.
