And that's why they treat their troops like their servants. Non officer grades are treated like shit in paramilitaries. These IPS officers are used to of getting pampered everywhere simply because they are an IPS officer. Govt should directly make a different cader right from the Upsc something similar to the IPS and these people would only serve in paramilitaries right from start to their retirement. And IPS should be solely responsible for policing and nothing else
Govt should get rid of IPSes altogether.

Anyhow, there's no need for seperate service. The Assistant Commandants of BSF and other Central Police Forces are also recruited by UPSC and they should be placed at par with IPSes and given equal kind of promotional opportunities including commands of the forces. Actually, it is the politicians who want malleable IPS to head the forces.

Fortuners are build in India, so are Safaris. Says a lot about the country's efforts at indigenisation if the top leadership is being accompanied phoren-mall bedecked, security detail.

I sincerely hope that one day in the future, the security cavalcade accompanying our top leadership will consist entirely of Indian brands- TATA, Mahindra, Ashok-Leyland etc.

Safaris were the go to escort vehicles until around 2009 when the SPG started using X5s. The reason for this was simple- the Safaris were very underpowered and the BMW 760LI (used to transport the PM) would simply outpace them if given the chance.

I sincerely hope that SPG works with TATA or Mahindra to create a bespoke “beast” like head of state transport vehicle for the PM in the future, Mahindra at least have said they are open to this.

As far as escort vehicles go, with the recent advancements from Indian brands I’m sure vehicles like the H7X will be ordered in the future.

Until then these cheap looking Fortuners are here to stay (occasional cameos from X5s May still occur)

But Land Rover is an Indian company, isn't it? it's not an Indian-origin brand, but Indian-owned brand.

The BMWs are also manufactured in India (CKD route) with more than 50% localisation. Cannot say the same about the security editions of these vehicles. As for the H7X replacing the Fortuner, I do not see that happening anytime soon as
1.) Its underpinned by a monocoque chassis.
2.) Its a very new platform that has yet to prove its worth.
3.) The Fortuners are quite new themselves and it makes no sense (financially and logistically) replacing them so soon into their service lives.

The way I see it, Indian companies simply do not have wherewithal (yet) to make a vehicle good enough for ferrying a head of state. Tata shows a lot of promise and maybe in the next 5 years, it may get there. Until then, the Sentinel is an excellent choice. A proven product that is technically Indian.

Cool! Such a shame the X5s are being gradually phased out of service and have been replaced by these cheap looking Fortuners.

Hopefully SPG goes for the H7X to replace their Safaris in a couple of years.

No offence intended, I too want locally developed and not only manufactured stuff in India. But you know guys, our this trauma of indigenization is turning into an obsession now.

Are they hard to make?
............,
Well for the most part it's commoditiesed tech . If tonbo is making current gen optics then easily someone can make the comm equipment. Not rocket science .

But the issue is IA command. They are satisfied with our soldiers "looking" a certain way rather than actually understanding why they need the kit.

Is there a reason for the soldiers above to wear those ridiculous dishdashes in an exhibition performance ?!

We have now reached kit compatibility with the Turkish SF of the early / mid '00s. We had the opportunity to use the budget to leapfrog.

But now we are buying helmets of various generation in batches / same for optics and body armour and other kit and constantly replacing in front line troops. Meanwhile in real world ops they revert back to what they have trained with ( which is yesterday's kit )

There is an inefficiency in the whole system which is mind numbing
