Hooda Panel on Special forces

The Hooda report also talks extensively about the role of the army’s elite SF units such as the ones that carried out targeted operations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2016. The report has suggested reviewing the role of India’s finest commandos and assigning them strategic tasks rather than burdening them with tactical roles as is the case currently, the second official said.

78 trainees comprising Marine Commando officers and sailors, officers undertaking Clearance Divers course and sailors undergoing Basic ‘Q’ CD III course from Diving School, Kochi undertook a 35 metre nonstop sea dive off Kochi on 27 December 2018. The platform for the sea dive was INS Sharda and the divers used surface demand diving equipment. All trainees successfully completed the dive which is a prerequisite for qualifying as a ship’s diver in the #IndianNavy.

Happy New Year Guys ..........

I don’t understand why we are still seeing those crappy lightweight helmets (guy second on the left is wearing), seems they are more common today in NSG than even 2 years ago.

At least standardise on the ACH with rails and mounts if you aren’t going to adopt high cuts and integrated comns.

I assumed so but that’s not acceptable. These guys are the tip of the spear and should not be limited by equipment restrictions. Re-equipping should happen in months, it’s been years.

The last I think looks like is geared against a stone pelting mob. Look at the chin guard

Bro - Chill - This is what we know.

1 . Oil Rig was damaged
2. A Technical Assesment team (civilians) were inserted with the help of 2 MARCOS operators for Survey purpose only

The question being asked above is

1. Why does Command - (IA/IN/IAF) treat Special Forces as the first option no matter what the issue. Across the board Conventional Commanders do this Cover My Ass Policy and send in SF first.
2. Is there a lack of other critical assets - UDT/Combat Diver / CG etc that couldnt do this task?
3. Was MARCOS utilization critical or just simply out of laziness on part of Command? If MARCOS was critical What could be the possible reason?

Lastly - nobody is disrespectful of work done.

The above simply circles back to the Katoch article i posted above.
While those are valid questions, there is certain level of respect that must be inherent in such conversations. As said before, there is whole lot of disrespect in those words towards command. Command presses into service capable men who are available on the GO and based on the need of the hour. The key point here is lives were saved, those saved don't care who did the saving and there is something comforting to know that when the need arises elite men could come to the rescue be it on a oil rig or a rescue mission in Yemen. While Marcos is an elite unit, there are several newbies who join every year and they need operational experience. Let's keep in mind, all this happened after a cyclone, Coast guard and other services would be slightly stretched in their work as well. While forces with clear mandates, appropriate utilization, modern equipment, adequate force strength and sizable budgets are all welcome. For now, they do the best they can with what they have. There is never any doubt that, better structure is the need of the hour (they know this) across the board but let's not jump to hasty conclusions without really knowing dick about all the various things that happen before such operations take place. There is a whole sequence of events and decisions that take place which we have no clue about. All we know about is usually summed up in very short often inaccurate article.

Units like MARCOS, PARA SF, GARUDS are like a mighty cock muscle, they need to be exercised. Else when the time arises all we have a is a limp dick or all cock, no balls.

Let command do the work. While I have no problem with constructive criticism, let's keep the venom towards those who serve at bay.

No its a 360° bpj. With neck, arm and groin protection apart from front, back and sides.
I think the groin, arm and neck protection can be removed when needed

I am sure it is. But it looks geared towards a rioting mob in a COIN enviorment. The "padding" doest not look bullet proof but "stone" proof.

But that's my 2 Paisa
