Welcome to the Indian Version of SAD aka CIA.
Actually (and i Hope) that the SG reverts back to its SAD role (they are the Indian Version of SAD)

and I hope this Unit becomes the Indian Version of JSOC. - Our True blue Tier 1 tasking.

In My opinion this new unit announcement is nothing more than the SOD that came in the news a few months back,

A "Surgical Strike" Unit To Fight Behind Enemy Lines: Government Sources

The new commando group will have soldiers from the special forces of the Air Force, the Navy and the Army -- Garuds, Marcos and Para, respectively, for conducting surgical strikes

The government is planning to set up a "surgical strike" force comprising the best soldiers drawn from the three branches of the military, a senior government official told NDTV. This special unit will conduct surprise precision strikes deep inside enemy territory, inflicting maximum damage in the shortest possible time and leave the battle area swiftly, similar to the operation carried out by the country's special forces on seven terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control in September 2016.

"The government feels it needs a special group with enhanced capabilities, so a unit having the best from all the three (branches of the armed forces) is being created," said the official, who asked not to be named.

The new commando group will have soldiers from the special forces of the Air Force, the Navy and the Army -- Garuds, Marcos and Paras, respectively. These battle-hardened soldiers whose skills are comparable to the US Navy Seals can operate in different terrain, from jungles and mountains to maritime environment.

The new unit will come under the direct control of the Army chief, the official said. "It will have two groups -- planning and assault," he said.

The government has chosen 96 members for the planning group, and 124 for the assault group.

The assault group is further divided into two sub-units -- as is the practice in all special force units of the world -- namely, attack and support units to ensure smooth deployment and seamless coordination.

The unit is the brainchild of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, a senior officer of the National Security Council said. "A note pertaining to it has been sent to the cabinet committee," he said. "Threats from air and sea are multiplying every day, so in the times to come we need to be prepared, that's why this unit is being created," he said.

The soldiers in the attack unit, apart from having top fighting skills, will know specialised field craft such as reading hi-tech maps and coordinating with air support, which the unit will eventually get. The support group will have soldiers who have local knowledge of the target area and can provide intelligence inputs to the assault unit.

"It's going to a cohesive unit. Those who have expertise in CI-ops (counter-insurgency) will be engaged in this group," the official said.

For now, the government plans to use any suitable infrastructure to maintain the new special force, whose name is not yet known. It will eventually allocate a separate budget for this group.

Regular infiltration attempts and ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces are the other reasons why this force is being set up. "It's also a part of psychological warfare tactics to put hostile neighbours under stress," the official said.

P.S: FIRE THE PEON FUCKER WHO LEAKED THIS NEWS. ALSO ARTICLE HERE. DON'T GIVE NDTV CLICKS FOR THEIR ADVERTISEMENT REVENUE.
Yes, the one role for which the entirety of special forces are developed and trained for, now requires a different force. And what are the current Special forces supposed to do now? because they cant be used for special ops missions like you know, cross border raids?

Whoever came up with this idea needs to look at the mandate and operational bandwith of special forces.

How will they infiltrate deep inside enemy territory without getting caught? How wil they withdraw from enemy territory deep inside without getting caught?seems like bogus.

100s of ways. an Example:. Buy a Visa - get on a plane get to Iran - Cross over in Civies. Collect weapons from a BLA Contact. Accomplish Mission. Exfil in 1s and twos again.

Remember the rescue mission in Yemen a year back when MARCOS and IN went in and rescued 1000s of Civilans. Indian MI/RAW operators were on the ground weeks before that laying the ground work. Thats a Strategic SOF profile mission.

There is a Substantial Difference between a conventional SOF unit and a Tier One Clandestine Unit. The Conventional SOF will continue their mission sets

- FID
- DA - Sabotage
- LRRP
- JTAC
- Sniper/Scout
- Hunting BM
- COIN - HVT interdiction etc

A Strategic Clandestine unit is a strategic national security asset whos job (in peace or war) is further the national policy statement of the government covertly.

We used to have a unit like this. It was called the Technical Services Division - though their tasking was only J&K - 4 officers and 32 men brought the Jihadi Factory in J&K to a stand still.

Easiest reading to understand is the difference in tasking between SOCOM and JSOC

KEY difference to understand is STRATEGIC Tasking and a Battlefield tasking

It wil be better for us to conduct these kind of missions with hired killers. Who will use their own men for these kind of dirty job where failiure rate is high?If someone is caught it will cause diplomatic embarrassment for India.

reading "between the lines" and amply projecting my own wishes and wants:

IMO the 124 number is perfect. it breaks down to almost 10 Squads (at 12 a Squad) - That's 2 Squadrons of 5 Squads Each. (1 active duty, 1 QRT + training)

IMO The support members will not be any less trained or important. They are providing Recce and Overwatch.

Keep in mind if the Govt do it right. It will take min 2-3 years to get this unit Operational to reach its "IOC". Selection, Retraining, Uptraining and Kitting.

Post the 3 years then they will have another 3-4 years of Deployment where usage, tactics, etc will be refined and reworked. At a Strategic level CS, Mil HQ, MOD will all need time to experiment to get the best out of this unit and also define its tasking

The whole point of these 124 gents should be to be able to accomplish the work of a Brigade.

They will need the Money, Infra and Political Backing to achieve their profficiency.

Any Expansion will ONLY take place over time.
Somehow I don’t think such a unit will have any effectiveness outside our borders.

Within the borders, our laws apply and hence ineffective.

But instead of them reporting to the chief, if they report to civilian administration it would be a different story.

There is a long list of countries that have been operating like this for decades.

We have the skill. we only need political testicular fortitude.

So,an All-Indian Tier One grp. I have a question. SG does our under the table job. Now what is gonna happen to it?If Dovalji is planning to create a new group altogether, will SG be limited to Tibetan border? How come we can differentiate between the two,SG under R&AW and dis new grp under Army HQ?

Won't this Create A feeling of Disappointment in The Para SF units

The only differentiating factor between this unit and other SF units would be Equipment

So they must Rotate the Personnel Every Two years

No. If there is. We should shoot ourselves.

This unit will be up trained for the PRIMARY difference in tasking

And if this unit doesn't have permanent cadre again we should shoot ohrslours

What India needs is a specialised R&D group attached to its elite SF

Mandate will be to develop niche equipments in support of specialised needs.

Eg remember the Kandahar situation where 3 pigs were released.

If the idiots in charge had been not so clueless they could have released the 3 pigs and killed them afterwards.

Eg.

1. Micro explosive devices planted in the shoes or belts etc of the 3 pigs rigged to go off via timed detonation or remote control after the hijacked Indian plane took off. KGB used such devices

2. injecting bio engineered virus / toxins into the 3 pigs which turns virulent in the host after a definite time period.

Hell i dont understand if no such toxins were available fully virulent HIV blood from a HIV patient could have been administered to the 3 pigs under any excuse like health check up etc. They would have died after 3 years max. And nobody would have been wiser. Atleast no bonabide blame could have been made. Randy terrorists got their due. :pound:

But no the 3 pigs were released all healthy and now they are fucking us left and right.

Thing is Indians in position of responsibility are clueless . Effect of reservation and over emphasis on selection via stupid exams ( Pharalikha gwars ) rather than specific capabilities of a individual.

We could have given them Ricin with food
Before handing them to Pakis

Maybe there was no Ricin available with Raw or IB

Recin not feasible choice

They would have dropped dead in less than 1 sec :)

After that ?

The Talibs would have banged the Indians and refused permission for the plane to take off

Recin is very dangerous stuff , not practical to use , delivery very risky , kills within milliseconds and if even 1 milligram escapes into atmosphere , will kill everyone , possibly half a city.

Yes controlled dosage inside jail possible before releasing the pigs

But IMO it would need prior case study with animal test subjects for 100% certainty of mortality.
