National Security Guards : The Eliminators

Beyond excellent!! Absolutely superb drills and their equipment is now great.

NSG really have transformed themselves from a second rate force into arguably the finest CT unit in all of Asia. The full spectrum of ops they are able to do (anti-hijack, air marshal, CT, hostage rescue, amphibious infiltration etc) is mind blowing and there really are not many forces in the world with as much expertise as them.

What was particuarly impressive was the fact that NSG has massively increased the scope of their training and prepardness and whilst I had been skeptical about the hubs, I think this was an excellent move to keep response times low, I like how they emphasise the "golden hour" to respond to an event and also how they say their job is to work with local special response units.

The fact that they are training with the ICG and mentioned the "green corridor" provided to NSG response units shows that since 26/11 multiple stakeholders have been included in the NSG's training.

Really NSG needs to take it up a notch now and get their own dedicated air wing, this will dramatically reduce response times and as they mentioned the hubs don't just cover the cities they are in but (rightly) have an "AOR" (area of responsibility) a certain radius around the hub which can cover a number of states, only way to effectively deal with this is with helicopters and lots of them (would like to see ALHs and MI-17s- until IMRH is ready with them), this is no longer a luxery but a bitter essential for these guys.

And there were many idiots after Pathankot asking why NSG was sent, the question now is why wouldn't you send these pros?

+ their equipment is much much improved no doubt but there is still room to grow, I think they need to replace the MP-5 and update their SIGs (556 now available) but was AWESOME to see the adoption of micro UGVs, the ball camera was just what I would've reccommended to them.

++ "the eliminators" is an EPIC nickname.

+++ Got to give NDA/BJP a LOT of credit for this, they have given NSG a huge increase in funds in the last 4 years to procure all this equipment, this year alone NSG have seen a 25% increase in funds over last year. Just hope they don't settle and keep pushing to get the best.

Decades of private news media and they still cant produce a documentary 25% as good as RSTV*.
To be fair, do private news media get this kind of acsess to secretive units? I'd argue not and It's probably best kept that way.
ID t-shirt insignia:
Saya something about Krav Maga but I'm not sure, is this a SRG insignia?

What I like is that it has "Delhi" written on, the different hubs are now getting their own identities and this will help build competition and readiness IMHO.

+ That underground firing range must be in one of the hubs, AFAIK this was what all the hubs are meant to have, exceptional stuff!

I loved the simplier stuff in the video. Operators finally carrying updated Breaching Gear on them. Foldable Liters also carried on person.

Also loved the K-9 Handling section. Upgraded tech and techniques obviously didnt get done in a vacume. Glad to see exposure to foriegn SOF and other Indian SOF units is paying dividend.

regarding the gun. Given that HRT is a Primary role and they will operate in a lot of places where urban infra is still 'kaccha' (mud / Tin - in slums, semi rural place + Airplane / Vehicle Hijack) - smaller caliber Weapon will always be used. Mp-5 is still a beautiful weapon. Dont think they will change ALL to the SIG - there will always be a calibre mix to deal with any environment. At best the MP5s will get upgraded to MP7s (or equivalent type).

Regarding the Swimmer Teams - Makes sense. Alot of their work will require water borne infill (rivers, Lakes, Shore based).

HOWEVER - Ships, oil rigs will always be MARCOS territory when it comes to HRT.

as soon as army officials meets those idiotic journos and presenters, they seem to shut off or limit maximum details from the jokers, since they have no idea wat they r abt to do!!!

doordarshan still rockz regarding the quality of output, narration, debates and journo credentials. and yes discovery, nat geo, history and veer channel as well. ndtv (hindi version if i remember correctly), despite madam burqua, has also done som gud docus.

Not just NSG - but even CAPFs. CRPF was first to get the new OFB sniper, ITBP gets polaris snow scooters, parachute wing, BSF gets new water fast attack craft etc.

Fanboys have been very unkind to Rajanth Singh. Under his stewardship the profile of CAPFs has risen considerably. J&K, NE and Naxal areas have all improved or at least seen successes by security forces.

If I remember correctly one of the erstwhile DG NSG said that they won't be considering a dedicated air wing for NSG due to the high maintenance cost attached with the air assets.

Amphibious ops have been a part of NSG syllabus for a long time and is no surprise.

Para boys handle this and also the airborne part.

What was good to see was the indoor firing range and good equipment in other hubs also.

NSG needs a major upgrade.Hope they go the right way.

Leather jackets with NSG badge and Adidas GSG 9 boots dont impress me and are a waste of budget if you ask me.

Better the resources are put in good use where it matters.

The biggest positive i take is of the mindset change of not taking over but assisting the local forces.

Btw saw the videos again. Since we all loved the video - my 2 paisa critiques for what its worth

In the beginning of the video (in the in door shooting range). The shooters are shooting at targets with their secondary weapons. BOTH of them take their eyes of the target to holster the gun. IMO the position of the holster on the chest is a Bad idea. ALWAYS going to happen. Environments like 26/11 are unforgiving. Losing situational awareness for even a second can be deadly. Also their ability to draw quickly is going to be greatly hampered while transitioning from primary to secondary.

In another place where the assaulters are entering a structure. one of the shooters has a hip holster but its so high up on the hip that part of the butt is getting covered/obstructed by his backpack. Again this guy is going to loose valuable seconds if it comes down to it.

I don't know about the jackets sir but I'll say that the boots are a good investment.

Anyone who's done even a little bit of trekking or riding would testify that a good boot makes a lot of difference when it comes to fatigue or protection.

And if I remember correctly, the Bravo Two Zero patrol of the SAS which got ambushed during Desert Storm, Chris Ryan was able to escape by walking a humongous distance... And he attributed that to him investing in good boots by himself and not carrying the standard issue British Army boots.
