The Creation and maintenance of an Expeditionary Unit usual has the following criteria

1. Multiple Colonies or Bases across the world that need staffing and protecting
2. Regional / Global - Permanent long term military alliances
3. Money - Expeditionary units take more money to train and equip and have a longer more complex logistic chain

No need to bring in "Nehurian" Mind set. We didn't have money or the political capital or need in 1947-1991 to build such a force and we hardly have the money to build one today though now the need is there.

Its not a simple thing like 30,000 troops. You need LPDs/LPHs. Armored Vehicles, Maritime Helos, Attach Helos, Dedicated Air Cover, Integrated Artillery and a whole logistic chain outside of CBGs to sustain operations.

If you remove the above you get the Royal Marine Commandos of Britain. Nothing more than elite infantry who can swim.

NSG in hostage rescue ops, mock drill in metro station..
Reminds the first misson from The Soldier of FortuneView attachment 21757
I don't want to sound critical or negative but NSG has a pretty good budget.Separate budget for clothing, weaponry and equipment but still they dont have that level of hi tech weapon or gears which could be bought.

Maybe the multi base deployment is eating their budget or something?

......

We have raised 3 SF units in the East with the sole purpose of countering China and insurgency.SFF is not as important to us as it used to be.Incase of a short war with China the larger picture will be painted by the 21,11 and 12 SF units.

.....r
Is SFF a special force like Para SF or more like Para Airborne?

That does not gel with your point about the 3 SF units reducing dependency on SFF.
It does.

When the SFF was raised in the 60s there was no such difference between the SF and a airborne unit.

It was raised as a elite force to counter China. But today the elite force is not the only elite force against China. We have options.

Secondly,SG can be considered a SF but SFF cannot.

I dont know the top secret plans with SFF or SG against China but 21,11 and 12 have a fair share of theirs for which they train regularly.

So its not the only force we are betting on against china. We have options and reduce dependency on them.

P.S-ITBP airborne troopers have also been inducted which also reduced dependency along with newly raised 23 and 29 Para.

To make it simple lets do a comparison

1962

SFF
SG
50th Brigade with 5 Para(i dont know if we raised 5 Para before the war or after)

2017(only the new ones)

1,2,3,4,9,10,11,21 SF raised.

6,7,23,29 are Airborne troops.

ITBP started inducting Airborne troops.

106 TA and 116 TA battalions.

.................................................................................

As you can clearly see the difference and easily make out how we have cut dependency from a few units to more units be it SF or airborne troops.

Indian leadership is totally confused on amphibious warfare thing.

Firstly, the 91 infantry brigade is not adequately equipped for the threat.

Secondly,i dont understand why we have to include the 50th Para brigade in this.

Lastly,No logic using a SF like Marcos as cannon fodder for a beach assault.

I may be wrong but either it is a SF operation where you have low profile infil and exfil or it will be a high profile beach landing using tanks.I dont see the Marcos fit in later. The job is of Ghatak from 91 infantry brigade or elite infantry and not of Special forces.

.
Lol for once i agree.

An old timer i know always says. In times of war if we want to win we need to Fire/retire all the General's / Admirals on the top and Battlefield promote everybody one rank higher.

Indian Military leadership is confused on alot of things. Hell They still keep rejecting the Arjun after Million Miles of test while continuing to buy a Rust bucket that still doesnt work properly.

Have You ever had a chance to review Modified AK-47 shown above .
How much Weight this Kit Increases or Decreases ?
Compared to Regular AK-47 what all changes dose this kit bring ?
Which units of IA are getting equipped ?
Who is doing these Modifications (DRDO + 3rd Party or DRDO with TOT from some foreign vendor ) ?
Is it any good , what do our Guys handling these guns have to say about this ?
