Are these the usual replacement due to wear and tear or this time, a part of some modernisation plan ?

Since the IA big bosses are not able to get their act together wrt procurement, Parrikar had increased funds at commander level to 400 crores. Now front line commanders can buy whatever they want directly instead of waiting for central procurement process to complete.

I heard that Chinese military run in same way as commanders of military district are given fund to procure equipment to food and even wage of soldier too under commanders control.
But this system lead to heavy corruption in Chinese military , many generels are either removed , jailed or executed , the recent Xi's shortening military size too a indirect way to tackle corrupt commanders , hope that we have good vigilance in this sector

Our procurement still goes through the tender process, so it's fine.

There reality Is Budget is To short only 20 -25 billion $ For 1.4 million troops

The Indian army has vast resources to manage

Along With Personal salary and Yearly perks of Soldiers that include CSD canteen facilities to liquor subsidy and others

No where in the World you will See Army managed In Such seer numbers in Such small Budget

SFF do have M3 "Grease" in service, first arrived as a part of American Aid when SFF was raised. These include M1 Grand, M1 Carbine and M3 grease etc

When was that photo with the M3s taken? Doesn't look that old. At least 8000 M1 Garands were sent to the SFF plus there were BARs. ITBP received them too. In addition M2 and M3 carbines were supplied. Wish photos of all were available. Who knows maybe M14s came too? I had, many years ago, seen a photograph of the SFF with an early M-16A1 from around 1971.
