Cops to induct 40 bullet-proof vehicles
Sources said the police have proposed to buy at least one bulletproof QRT for every sub-division in each districts.
The Delhi police have decided to induct over 40 bulletproof vehicles for its quick reaction team (QRT). Sources said the police have proposed to buy at least one bulletproof QRT for every sub-division in each districts.
Delhi has 13 police districts with over 50 sub-divisions. Each sub-division comprises at least three police stations. With induction of these vehicles, police personnel deployed in them will get the more confidence while tackling with the terror operations, said in a recently issued circular from the police headquarters.

J&K police to get bullet-proof jackets, vehicles
JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Police will get bullet-proof vehicles and jackets for most of its jawans serving in insurgency-hit areas, in view of the recent terror attacks in the Valley, a senior official said on Friday.
As many as 26 cops have been killed in the terror attacks in Kashmir this year, according to official police data.
"Lots of things are being procured to modernise the police force after recent attacks on policemen by terrorists, and the ministry of home affairs was kind enough to take swift action and sanctioned bullet-proof vehicles for almost all the police stations and senior officers," Director General of Police (DGP) J-K, S P Vaid told PTI.
He said the bullet-proof jackets and headgears (patkas) are also under procurement and police modernisation is taking place.
"Around 150 bullet-proof vehicles are being procured and bullet-proof jackets and headgears (patkas) are being given to most of the jawans in insurgency-hit areas," the DGP said.
He said there is a lot of support from the state and the central government.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jammu and Kashmir, he had announced Rs 500 crores for the modernisation of the Jammu and Kashmir police under the prime minister development programme and that is under procurement.
Most of the top terrorists, including Masood Azhar's nephew, Jaish-e-Mohammad Mehmood Bhai, Lashkar-e- Taiba's Abu Dujana and Waseem Shah, and Burhan Wani's successor Sabzar Ahmad Bhat of Hizbul Mujahideen, were among 170 terrorists killed in encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir this year.
The DGP said that roughly 170 terrorists have been killed this year only (in Kashmir) and this is the record of last ten years.
"Except four to five commanders, most of the commanders have been eliminated," he said.
On cops joining militancy, he said that two police personnel joining militancy has come to his notice.
"We are looking into the causes, there are various reasons. After all the police is also part of the same society and you can get influenced. You live in the same society, same villages. It is not a serious challenge," he added.

It seem like Jammu and Kashmir police have highest number of bullet proof vechiles. Now Central Govt procuring around 150 bullet proof vechiles for Jammu and Kashmir police. I hope they procure Mahindra 6x6 mine protected vechile too it will be usefull for road opening party.

Time has come for home ministry to release an RFI for designing of a Indian police vehicle ground up, rather than converting passenger vehicles to police vehicles.
Possible combinations are:
1) sub four metre compact SUV(for within city limits)
2) Scorpio size SUV

Well as far as i've seen most are just regular gypsies upgraded against small arms or stuff like that. Only recently they've started to get modified mahindra cars. As far as a proper armoured vehicle is concerned let's wait and see what the govt eventually chooses. Also i think the jkp needs to have another specific unit purely for urban swat operations, as the SOG is busy with counter terrorism and is purely a counter terroisim unit.

Mumbai Police? Yes. JKP? well it will be difficult seeing the bad road and environmental conditions in terrorism affected parts of the valley. I think going for an indian manufactured armoured vehicle by the likes of TATA like LAV would be better choice. Also it would be a cheaper option and maintaince would be less hectic since it would be an indian brand which already finds use in the IA.
Mumbai Police and Jammu And Kashmir Police force should procure Sherpa 2 armoured vechile.
