If they can ensure its range & accuracy to be equal to leading competitors, then. Otherwise it'll just become another shit rifle like INSAS being bought just for the "desi" tag... Maybe convert it to .338 lapua.

What relevant is it doesn't have rails, cheek rest & buttstock length aren't adjustable(?), probably isn't suppressor compatible etc... Also that damned orange paint!

Unfortunately, Indian Defence Scientists and Engineers consider it below their dignity to indulge into small arms like Rifles, LMG, SMG, Sniper Rifles, Carbine, pistols, small motors, RL etc. They all want high sounding cosy projects to satiate their unfulfilled desires to be called as Scientists. They want some fancy projects which will linger on for 50 years without any results and responsibilities and cater for their safe retirement. Till then they can play on DFI from their office computers and abuse everyone around left right and center.

Small arms are instant result area for everyone to see and use. Even a soldier can easily evaluate the product. So why would DRDO / OFB indulge into these and get exposed instantly. Why should OFB Balmiki Rishis write a Veda should can be read and evaluated by Shudras called soldiers. No one wants to travel on INSAS road - the Ramayana written by OFB which has no grammer - not even IOFS grammer.

Slowly and progressively, OFB is shifting to ride on the CAPF and state police forces where such "Katta" can be easily passed on without any protest and products undergoing rigours of operations. That is the new captive market for Reservationist Royal Ordinance Factories of India.

It is not just looks, well they matter if you have to make the weapons marketable in the international market. Another question about the looks, what is this FRIGGIN OBSESSION WITH ORANGE !!! The OFB outputs more saffron paint than Hindu temples.

In the OFB rifle pic look at how outstretched the non firing palm is on the rifle's forearm. You think that is something a sniper will be able to travel with when sneaking from the enemy ?

This is what we should do, overpay a batch of swiss (or Israeli) weapons engineers and have them come and teach these OFB dolts about making a utility weapon, knock out the imperfections from our indigenous weapon systems.... at least we will save the cost of ORANGE PAINT...

Its not only about look. That abomination by OFB could shed a lot of weight with properly designed furniture. Even without using polymer, the weight factor could be brought down to a minimum just by sleek designing.

BUT OFB and aesthetics doesn't go hand in hand.

Well, to be fair, from its very outset, the DRDO was set up to focus on developing those core technologies that would be denied by the developed nations and sadly, small arms don't fall within that category, so they take a back seat (or rather shoved out of the room altogether).OFB should have taken the lead by themselves but then again, it's the damn OFB we are talking about.
By the way, it's ordnance, not ordinance.

No.
recoil has been reduced by a very large extent. target acquisition and ranging has become very easy with the new rail and optic combo. the Bipod adds stability and gives it true DMR capability.
