Let’s just say it’s very hard. It’s not easy. Even in Vikrant we made some messy mistakes and now we have to build an second one to get expertise. And with that can build LPD, LHD etc as well. The 4th carrier should be an Catobar and Nuclear one. Now that takes time. In the meantime, DAE can develop reactor, develop Catobar tech, test on land, get TEDBF or even 5th gen Naval fighter ready for that.

Let’s just say the repeat third carrier if ordered in 2025, will only be ready by around 2032-33 timeframe. Catobar will be 2040, considering design changes, vendor sourcement, integration, testing etc. Design itself will take 3-4 years after its sanctioned.
By early 30s, the Vikramditya would be already 50 years old and on its last legs. Better to have a follow on of Vikrant class rather than to have only one carrier operational.

Vikramaditya will only be out of service post 2040s. IAC-2 is not seen as a replacement for R33.

If sanctioned then IAC-2 will come around 2037.

Now the question is about quality..
The quality of construction is all good. When you have a world beating commercial ship building industry, it tricked down to military building as well. India has less than 0.5% of world commercial ship building orders. Our shipyards rely only on military contracts. So what’s the need to build something in 2 years?

Until unless we invest in technology that can leap current ship building technology or heavily subsidize this sector to get orders we ain’t moving forward on thjs

Err no. Vicky was stripped off almost everything inside the ship. From cables to boilers etc. except for the hull outside, everything is new. Vikramaditya will serve the navy till we lose the last of Mig29k. Atleast till 2040-42. When the next gen Catobar ship comes online. It may be marked by frequent breakdowns in her last years but that’s why we need IAC2 hopefully (Viraat) ordered now.

GRSE is already biting more than it can chew by taking so many projects and finding it difficult to execute alone. They are collaborating with L&T to meet the demands.

MDL will likely remain the sole manufacturer of DDG and SSK until and unless L&T gets the P-75I.

In future, chances of GSL getting any frigates order is also very low. They only got P11356 because they couldn't get the MCMV and other shipyards were occupied.

MDL: Destroyers + SSK + Frigates
GRSE: Frigates + Corvettes + OPV + Survey Vessels
GSL: OPV + MCMV
HSL: FSS + Auxiliary Ships
CSL: Aircraft Carrier + Corvettes
L&T: Auxiliary Ships + SSK* + LHD*

* = only if they win the current bid.

How Karwar Naval base will look after completion of construction activities. (Incomplete view though)

View attachment 221480
INS Kadamba will be in the west and INS Varsha will be in the east. Both will be very big though Varsha will be substantially smaller than Kadamba. INS Kadamba will be able to dock 2 AC whereas INS Varsha will be docking 1 AC and also act as a secret base for our nuclear subs with a capacity to house 10-12 subs.
