Looking at this tamasha for F-18 being pursued and other things, the severe lesson is that a big country simply CANNOT AFFORD to not have its own MIC ! Else you're basically a virtual slave to other nations, and your own babus with the armed forces being made to run pillar to post (5th attempt to buy drones !!!) to procure basic arms. Tchah !! :frusty:

IMAGES SHOW DESIGN FOR INDIAN NAVY INDIGENOUS COASTAL SUBMARINE

A short video shared on Twitter user appears to show a new indigenous submarine design for the Indian Navy. The presentation is from Indian engineering company Larsen Toubro (L&T) who are involved in submarine and special forces diver transport projects. The submarine is generally smaller than the Type-209/1500 Sindhughosh class and Pr. 877EKM KILO (Sindhughosh class) boats. It is however larger than the X-Craft used by the Pakistan Navy, especially their newest class.

However its small size places it in the category of coastal submarines, at the large end of ‘midget submarines’. This puts it in company with the North Korean Sang-O class and Iranian Fateh Class). Significantly the Indian design can carry two swimmer delivery vehicles (SDVs) for special forces. In the compromise it only has two torpedo tubes with no reloads. This arrangement is actually most similar to the Pakistan Navy’s MG-110 X-Craft, although the Indian design is much larger.

Production Potential

The Indian Navy has a residual requirement for small coastal submarines to support its special forces. It is unclear whether this design is a sanctioned project however, and even less so whether it will ever be built. India has gained significant experience of submarine building but is, overall, focused on nuclear boats. At the forefront of these is the Arihant Class and follow-on SSBN and SSN classes. It seems well within India’s capacity to design and build coastal submarines.

US Offers F-18 Fighters To Indian Navy

The United States of America (USA) on Wednesday has offered its F-18 naval fighter jets to the Indian Navy in a bid to fulfill India’s requirements of combat jets for its aircraft carriers. Few years ago, the Indian Navy had expressed interest in the acquisition of 57 naval fighter jets for its operation from the Navy’s aircraft carriers including the present INS Vikramaditya and the under-construction Indigenous Aircraft Carrier. “The American Government has offered to provide their naval fighter aircraft F-18 for the Indian Navy under a government proposal at the meeting between defence delegations of both countries during the 2+2 meetings,” government sources told ANI. As per reports, the Indian Navy was offered to buy their F-18 fighters along with the unmanned aircraft Sea Guardian as well as a number of other systems. At the moment, the Indian Navy has been assessing the F-18 and the Rafale naval fighters for its present and futuristic requirements as its present fighter is likely to be phased out by the end of this decade or the beginning of next. The aircraft offered by the American government is said to be the advanced version of the plane which was on offer to the Indian Air Force for its requirement of 126 Multirole Medium Combat Aircraft in which only Rafale and European Eurofighter had been able to meet the qualitative requirements and finally the French plane had been selected. Both Rafale and F-18 have been showcasing the simulated capability of their respective fighter aircraft to take off and land at the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier to the Indian Navy. Furthermore, the Americans have also shared a lot of information regarding the deployment and activities of the Chinese military in the military standoff.
Here’s the Ski Jump video!!!

Why don’t we have a program for making 6 SSGNs? We should have as we can’t ignore Nuclear Cruise Missile submarines as they are a huge force multiplier. USS Georgia is an SSGN of 17k ton displacement and carries 154 Tomahawk Cruise missiles. Some similar submarines should be made in India and commissioned.

Noob question ..what is the difference between SSN and SSGN
SSN generally deploys it's weapons through its torpedo tubes and the no of weapons load is limited by the space in the torpedo compartment .

SSGN has seperate launchers either as VLS or silos/launchers in the hull in addition to the torpedo tubes. Thus it's weapons load is far greater and diverse.

But this difference between SSGN and SSN is blurred in some submarines eg Virginia class SSN which has VLS for launching missiles in addition to the torpedo tubes.

Generically speaking main difference would be the weapons load. SSGN has a larger weapons load compared to SSN.

Operational roles are also different.

A possible lease of 15-18 units of FA-18 Block III is under advanced stages of negotiation for the
@indiannavy
I take full blame for sparking a debate about deck lift sizes on the INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant (IAC-1)
