Why so?.. Is it the AIP addition?

These designs aint being used in any known project. Now suddenly there's subs to be kicked off from next financial year only... Isn't it likely this design would be used for those SSNs?

IN design bureau has long been working on conventional submarine designs . It is a part of a long drawn process to develop competence. So that when the public official sanction comes they are not caught with their balls in their hands.

News of official sanction of SSN is recent , but work on it has been a decade long process . Need I remind you that arihant was originally a SSN.

Arihant silo will be the base , cut costs complexity and time.

Most new long range missiles ( eg SMART , PRALAY ) have a dia of .74 m ( same as K15/Shaurya ) for a reason.

Refer Virginia class SSN VLS for the context.

Bro i think our SSN will use electric propulsion in place of gear box.

To understand the context interms of adaptability of different types of missiles , both ballistic and cruise. All IN/DRDO will require is to design different adaptors for different missiles ( or combination of missiles ) as per mission requirements which will fit into arihant silo shown below. Plus reusing or deriving from Arihant silo will cut costs, complexity and time.

How many VLS total can be installed?
1) For SMART, expect anything between 8-16 cells.
2) For LRCM, Navy might go with a mix of 8 Brahmos and 8 LRCM in the existing configuration or add 8 more VLS cells so that it can be configured as 16 Brahmos and 8 LRCM or 8 Brahmos and 16 LRCM.
3) For VL-SRSAM, anything between 16-32 additional VLS cells.
These are just my assumptions.

If you note the model , you will notice it is a two piece arrangement

First is the lower body ( main body )
Second is the upper body ( hump and mast )

This means upper body is interchangeable in the model for testing out different configurations of the same.

And thus it is safe to imply that the model released is most probably a discarded early test model.

Till today we don't have a clear pic of arihant , so what are the chances that they will release the confirmed model of a SSBN . Zero.

Let me drop a hint if one is looking for a rough idea of future SSN , take scorpene as a kind of indirect base ( very loosely )

SSBN will also loosely have the same hydrodynamic features more or less ( lower body )
For those who understood the above , will see the hints

Cant compare a small corvette with a destroyer. And its cost 350 million Dollars without subsidiary.
Question is abt the armament. Even when we compare similar class Western ships to Kolkata class, It looks under armed.
