If you are not going for any deck based role, why not push for NLCA?
Cuz, it's not a proven platform yet!! It's still in initial stages of development, hence the IN opted for foriegn aircraft!!
Get this IAF itself didn't get LCA squadrons on time due to HAL's incompetamce, I can only imagine IN order of LCA!

Now, how is it possible that a smaller aircraft has better payload and range than a bigger aircraft?? F/A 18 is considerably bigger than rafale M and should technically have better options than the other.
Plus, I didn't mean going with a new carrier has different logistics, its just that our new carrier will have newer aircrafts altogether than using the existing aircrafts and hence there will be no logistical constraints.
Please check the specs.

Indian Navy issued a RFI for the Installation of the Lithium Ion Batteries on the Kaveri Clas Submarine. This eliminates the use of the AIP.

US State Department approves potential FMS of AGM-84L Harpoon missiles and Mk 54 lightweight torpedoes for India's P-8I maritime aircraft
The US Department of State has approved potential Foreign Military Sales (FMSs) of air-launched AGM-84L Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles and Mk 54 All-Up-Round lightweight torpedoes (LWTs) – along with related equipment and services – to arm the Indian Navy’s (IN’s) Boeing P-8I Neptune long-range maritime multi-mission aircraft.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 13 April that the Indian government had requested the procurement of 10 of the anti-ship missiles along with containers, spares, support and test equipment.

Also included in the proposed AGM-84L deal, which is estimated to be worth USD92 million, are technical publications and related documentation, personnel training equipment, ‘specialised assignment airlift missions (SAAMs)’engineering systems and logistics support services.

The DSCA said that the proposed sale would “improve India's capability to meet current and future threats from enemy weapon systems”. Moreover, it pointed out that the missile system will be integrated onto the aircraft for anti-surface warfare missions “in defence of critical sea lanes, while enhancing interoperability with the US and other allied forces”.

The principal contractor would be Boeing in St Louis, Missouri.

In a separate statement issued that same day the DSCA said New Delhi had also requested to buy 16 Mk 54 lightweight and three Mk 54 exercise torpedoes.

Which SBF apart from Hansa is there?

IN rejected NLCA because its single engine and IN found it not suitable enough to operate from AC. So IN basically wants a fighter for deck based operation instead of operating from SBF.

LCA got deployed on Western sector. One sqd of Mig-29K is already operating from Hansa. IAF is operating LCA from Sulur and one Su30 squadron is getting deployed in Thanjavur and another coming up in Andaman. So apart from deploying the 18's from Hansa, where would IN use it?

Goa and Vizag, that's the only Main Naval bases present, and IN controls those Airports as well!!

The most comprehensive discussion on Chinese PLAN deployment in IOR. Ex CNS Sunil Lamba gives out interesting details!
Don't miss out if you have interest in the subject.

I have one question!! Why can't these decommissioned ships be refurbished and commissioned into Indian Coast Guard???
Current navy doctrine implies that coast guard ships need endurance and more room for crew which these decommissioned vessels lack.
Secondly, every naval vessel design is based on "maritime vessel obsolescence, life cycle cost and design service life". Beyond that service life, it is not financially viable to keep those afloat. It is better to to have new vessels incorporating newer designs and technologies

I think Indian Navy should take control of AFS Kalaikunda from IAF and it's ideally should be under IN. Afterall those Su-30MKI placed in AFS Kalaikunda are totally under ANC.

Coast guard vessels have simplistic needs really... an OPV or an AOPV needs to have god level endurance - 4000-5000 NM , a basic gun and a chopper... that's really about it, after a point the cost of keeping a Rajput(Kashin) class destroyer at sea is too high for simple patrol and endurance duties.. its like using an old tank as an APC
