Isro developing capability to launch humans on quick space tourism flights
Isro is working on developing indigenous capabilities towards space tourism through the demonstration of human space flight capability to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is working on developing space tourism capability in a bid to score a chunk of the pie, which is set to become a multi-million-dollar market in the coming years.
Science & Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that the space agency is in the process of developing indigenous capabilities towards space tourism through the demonstration of human space flight capability to Low Earth Orbit (LEO). He added that Isro is currently working with 61 countries of the world in different fields of space activity.
The space tourism market has catapulted in the last couple of years with private aerospace companies dominating the field as government space agencies playing catch up. Elon Musk founded SpaceX is leading the space tourism market with its Dragon spacecraft taking people on tourism flights in zero gravity.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos-led Blue Origin is another big player with its New Shepard spacecraft launching from West Texas with passengers in brief joyrides to space. The flights last nearly 10 minutes, giving the passengers a view of the Earth from outside it. Isro is currently working on several other missions as it looks to conduct its first human spaceflight launch with the Gaganyaan mission, with an uncrewed launch delayed to next year.

Isro had in May this year successfully conducted a static fire test of the boosters that will power India's maiden astronaut mission. While the four unnamed Indian Air Force officers continue to train for the mission, the ground qualification tests of launch vehicle propulsion stages have also been commenced and successfully progressing.

Being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the Gaganyaan crew module will be the first indigenous spacecraft to take Indian astronauts into space and return them safely to Earth.
The minister also informed that the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) seeks to promote active participation of the private sector in carrying out end-to-end space activities, which includes space tourism as well. IN-SPACe will come up with mechanisms to enable sharing of technical facilities and expertise available across ISRO Centres with private entities.
The minister further informed that the Department of Space (DOS) is in the process of drafting a comprehensive, integrated Space Policy, which shall provide direction to the activities of the private Indian space industry.

Gaganyaan test: Vehicle to go up to 11km, crew module 15-16km
Isro chairman S Somanath
BENGALURU: The first abort test using the special test vehicle (TV) as part of Gaganyaan will see the crew module separate from the TV at a height of around 11km (from sea level), attain an altitude of around 15km before falling back to back in the Bay of Bengal.
The test — TV technology demonstrator-1 (TV-TD1) mission — which was tentatively planned for August earlier this year, is now expected to be carried out in September. Union minister Jitendra Singh and Isro chairman S Somanath had confirmed this at a press conference earlier this month.
A senior official overseeing the mission, told TOI: “We’ll take the vehicle to around 11km approximately and then from there, the crew module will go up to about 15-16km and then it will come down. We’ll demonstrate the coming down, descent phase, parachute deployment and recovery.”
Another scientist explained that at the altitude of about 11km — the final mission profile will be made public at a later stage — the crew module will separate from the vehicle, escape from the trajectory of the vehicle, and then drop back.
“...The ground team at Sriharikota will do the tracking. Once separated/ejected from the TV, the CM will have a free fall. Essentially, we’ll be demonstrating the crew escape system in an in-flight abort scenario. This means navigation and guidance, control systems and parachutes will be demonstrated. A success in this will give us the confidence to expedite a lot of other processes,” the scientist said.
As reported earlier by TOI, Isro has already conducted multiple parachute tests ahead of integrated air-drop tests. The scientist added that all the packages — like avionics, telemetry and telecommand, navigation, control systems, etc — of the crew module are available and ready. “...We are looking at integration next month, following which there will be extensive testing before the TV-TD1,” he added.
Stating that even the test vehicle parts have come and integration will be done in the coming weeks, the scientist said: “Since most of the hardware is standardised, we do not anticipate any problems. The motors and other systems have already been tested individually.”
The four astronaut-elects, the official said, were continuing training and are expected to start simulation training soon. “We’ve developed three types of simulators that will help them (astronauts) get familiar with the cockpit, crew module controls, mission profiles and experiences, etc. They will also have simulations for manual intervention if any,” the official added.

Another important milestone in the #Gaganyaan project is completed,by successfully test-firing the Low Altitude Escape Motor(LEM) of Crew Escape System(CES),from Sriharikota today.

The CES takes away the Crew module of mission in case of any eventuality n rescues the astronauts.

Latest ISRO updates from Isro subreddit r/ISRO
Inflight Abort Test-1 which was initially scheduled to be in this month is now delayed to December
unfortunately unmanned Gaganyaan G1 delayed to dec 2023
There will be 3unmanned flights instead of two flights as planned earlier.
Now I am guessing that manned flight will be delayed to 2026-27 at the earliest

We must be really good to not have any anomalies during testing, this is off charts or the wording needs to be qualified or not stated at all other than tests passed statement. Just dumb statements that should not be made...

Could one major reason for the latest delay in launching the unmanned Gaganyaan, be the commercial contracts obtained for OneWeb? Because of the use of the GSLV Mk3 for those launches.
