28nm Fab is what India needs.
not entirely correct, the 60s and 40s (still largely being used in Telecom, Automotive, Data storage, and defense ) nodes are the areas where India needs to showcase its capability and reliability to the world. Then by default world would follow India for the latest state-of-the-art nodes. India first needs to prove itself to the world, especially in manufacturing mature nodes then the scaling up would follow. China also had a similar progression.

Kuch zyada hi proving karna hoga, Govt is giving quite heavy incentives and all we can attract is OSAT/ATMP plants.
Country has a bad image as a manufacturing-for-export destination, hope the "PLI model" of gibs-for-production is temprorary and doesn't become a long term thing

Begin at 28mn; that is mid-range and then move up to 5nm in 5 years.

Bro, propsals are from 40nm to 60nm :bplease:

Let those be built then you can think about 28nm and 5nm :daru:

Even Intel was struggling for 5nm for many years, they still are stuck at 10nm, 7nm idk, you can forget about a starting from scratch country like us if an American MNC was struggling like this

Curious to know if Tower’s (Israel) proposal to set up chip making FAB has been rejected or not. There is no mention of Tower‘s inclusion in the FAB and packaging projects declared by the Government of India.

I am curious too, maybe they proposed a 40nm fab or even less.
There are proposals to reopen the window with further allocation post election. And Tower is defending a lawsuit against their former partners (ISMC) - perhaps, this impacted their fortune.

Again, as of now, these are just speculations.

A 28nm node fab can be strategic as you can see the batmunchers did chinese jugaad to build a exascale supercomputing using older 28nm vs 7nm of contemporaries. We could follow their path, supercomputers are very strategic in nature for myriad fields in india and they are must if we wanna progress on our scientific endeavour. Ofcourse importing them costs a bomb but if we could make our own, it revives local economy and also sharpens the fab. I think we already had experience in design but no so much in manufacturing. This must not falter as we fell so back in ranking. Although using TSMC is better for 7nm who knows whether batmunchers or burgermunchers would induce some shady stuff(i don't know if its possible), or artificially create supply chain disruptions or so.
