First decide for which application you want to produce the chips. You just don't start producing any random node chips. What is possibly the lowest nm processors we can make in-house granted that we are able to match the markets production cost?
90 nm? 60 nm?
Anything above 65nm is useless. 65nm node fab can be easily constructed with just $1 - $1.5 billion investment. It is a very mature node. I will be happy if we can start from there. However, I have read news articles which said technology to make chips at 28nm scale has been transferred to Vedanta. What is possibly the lowest nm processors we can make in-house granted that we are able to match the markets production cost?

We had shortage of processoes for our cars right?First decide for which application you want to produce the chips. You just don't start producing any random node chips.
Identify companies who need chips and then decide nodes based on that and then sign contracts with them.
Window for this is fast shutting. Ever since China was blackballed by the US & allies , they've decided to flood the market with > 14 mm node SMC besides doubling down to fabricate < 14 mm node SMC along with the machines to mfg it .We had shortage of processoes for our cars right?
And ahead of that we can implement it on our Home appliances.
Grab the lowest hanging fruit first and foremost tha we will gradually step up.
65nm to 28 nm should be in our ball park.
What kind of processor or System on Chip is used in automobile? We had shortage of processoes for our cars right?

What chips are required for your usual remotes for Remotes for TV, AC and related electronics?Anything above 65nm is useless. 65nm node fab can be easily constructed with just $1 - $1.5 billion investment. India signs deal with Belgium-based IMEC to get chip-making technology
Cutting-edge tech from Belgium-based IMEC will be transferred to the company that sets up a semiconductor plant in Indiawww.business-standard.com
What kind of processor or System on Chip is used in automobile?
Can anyone check and paste here?
I am not sure Industrial purpose electronic uses below 28nm chips.
Then you have to sign contracts with these car companies. Visualize the product and offer them some good price. Why Are Automotive Chips Still In Short Supply?
There are many reasons so many semiconductor chips are used in cars, and the need for special qualification processes means shortages will take longer to abate.www.google.com
pointed out earlier that many automotive microcontrollers use 90 nm technology, and it has been difficult to add capacity. The shortages over the past two years have prompted some automotive chip vendors to migrate to 65/55nm nodes, and some have even jumped to 40 nm
Govt lab already makes 128 nm - 90 nm chips for strategic purposes… missile, satellites, rockets etc. …What is possibly the lowest nm processors we can make in-house granted that we are able to match the markets production cost?
90 nm? 60 nm?
Not anymore. We need to go all the way to 15 nm to stay in the technological race by the westerns and focus on obtaining the necessary technology and knowledge to get to 1 nm.Govt lab already makes 128 nm - 90 nm chips for strategic purposes… missile, satellites, rockets etc. …
Machinery comes from abroad but India can itself make the machinery if necessary..
I think Govt labs can easily go till 48 nm with foreign supply(Russia,Israel etc) but for strategic purchases 90 nm - 128 nm is sufficient
Not required for strategic purposes larger nm chips are better resistant to radiation and bringing the same resistant to smaller nm chips requires more frugal investment…Not anymore. There's more to it than just missiles and aircraft. It is all about processing power and energy consumption. We may need smaller nm chips for radars & sonars, EW, and satellites, etc.Not required for strategic purposes larger nm chips are better resistant to radiation and bringing the same resistant to smaller nm chips requires more frugal investment…
As long as it does the job go for higher nm sizes for missiles etc.
If wishes were horses, we would have a stampede of dreams galloping into reality. There's more to it than just missiles and aircraft. It is all about processing power and energy consumption. We may need smaller nm chips for radars & sonars, EW, and satellites, etc.
haha if wishes were horses….China is going to break the oligopolies in SMC plant machinery & Aircraft gas turbine engines in next 2-3 yrs. Thereafter it will be rapid decline of US, EU, ASEAN manufacturing moats & advantage. I see commercial aircraft prices falling by 50% in 2030. Similarly high tech & long waiting period machinery prices will also halve.
Nowadays getting high tech is just about paying. Practically no barriers. But our Babus are incompetent. No movement for almost 35 yrs. We are now 50 yrs behind. No chance of catch up
People don’t realise that Chinese rise, Elon musk humanoid robots, AI and EVs, will end the current global economic order. It will also end Indian labour arbitrage.
The only reason Indian economy standing today is around USD 100 billion of Russian money stranded in India and the discount We are getting for internal consumption of Russians fuel and their raw material. Otherwise, we are only one drought away from Pakistan type collapse. Even if Ukraine war ends, Russia can pull huge money out of India immediately.
Better target the microcontrollers and low-end microprocessors that go in cars and white-goods appliances, those don't need the latest bleeding edge 5nm or 3nm or whatever it is.What is possibly the lowest nm processors we can make in-house granted that we are able to match the markets production cost?
