Ex-army man’s wife expresses anguish over attacks on soldiers, sends blouse to PM Modi

A former soldier’s wife, shaken by recent attacks on Indian troops by Pakistan, has sent a 56-inch blouse to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an apparent reference to claims that he had a 56-inch chest, largely seen as a symbol of courage. In a letter to the prime minister, Suman Singh, wife of ex-armyman Dharamvir Singh, reminded Modi that the Bharatiya Janata Party had before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls claimed if it came to power, Pakistan would not “dare” attack Indian soldiers. “But the situation is even worse now,” she wrote.

Her husband told reporters in Fatehabad that the letter addressed to the Prime Minister, along with the blouse, had been submitted to the Zila Sainik Board in Fatehabad. Dharamvir, who claimed he was a former district observer of the Aam Aadmi Party, said he had served in the Army from December 1991 to 2007 and retired as a havaldar. Being an ex-army man’s wife, he said, Suman had expressed anguish at the recent spate of killings.

“She told me that women send their sons, brothers, husbands to the border to defend their motherland and not to get beheaded and get pelted with stones. Where has the 56-inch chest gone now, she asked,” the Fatehabad resident said.

The ex-serviceman was asked if the gesture could be seen as an insult to the office of the prime minister. “You tell me one thing — are we not being insulted? Our prime minister used to say never ever will our soldiers have to go through what they went through before. But what is happening under the present regime is even worse,” he said.

Suman wrote in her letter that videos had surfaced “in which our soldiers are seen being slapped, humiliated and pelted with stones”. Two soldiers were beheaded by Pakistan, she wrote. She referred to Lance Naik Hemraj, who was beheaded by Pakistan’s Border Action Team in January, 2013.

“At the time of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, we felt that no more of our soldiers will be beheaded like Hemraj and enemy will think ten times before doing such action, but they have been repeated,” the letter said.

She urged the PM to give the Army a “free hand” to tackle the situation on the border. “The way the hands of our soldiers are tied they are unable to take the situation head on, which is most unfortunate,” she wrote.

Dharamvir said he was deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for over 11 years. “I was part of several counter insurgency operations. I also got the Sena Medal from the President on two occasions. My son is also preparing to join the forces,” he said.

Zakir Musa,Chief of Hizbul leaves Hibul Mujahideen because HM disowned his statement. He says I cant be shaheed if I fight for secular state

So now Kashmiri wants to establish Shariat in Kashmir. This changes complete narrative. I talked about this with a few Europeans and even they were shocked because till now they were thinking that Kashmir wants to gain independence from India. But after this it is totally justified from our end to do whatever we want.
West is facing similar problem. and they are doing whatever they want.

  • Pak troops fire 120 mm mortar bombs along LoC in Rajouri
9:17 HRS IST
Jammu, May 13 (PTI) In yet another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops today resorted to heavy shelling along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, drawing sharp retaliation from the Indian Army.

This is third ceasefire violation along Indo-Pak border in J&K in past three days.

"Pakistani Army initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 0715 hours along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector", PRO, Ministry of Defence (MoD) Jammu- Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

The Indian Army posts are retaliating strongly and effectively, he said, adding that the firing is currently going on.

A BSF jawan suffered minor injuries yesterday when Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire along the International Border and fired few bullets, warning the Indian troops working ahead of fence with a tractor in Arnia area in Jammu district.

BSF troops guarding the IB had also retaliated.

On May 10th and 11th, Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling and firing of automatic weapons on civilian areas near the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, killing a woman and injuring two people including husband of the deceased lady.

Two Pakistani soldiers were injured in retaliation by the Indian side.

In the wake of the Pakistani action in Naushera tehsil of Rajouri district, the schools in the area were closed down and an evacuation plan was activated under which over 1200 people from various border hamlets are being shifted to safer places.

After the Pakistani shelling, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Nowshera tehsil had issued an order, directing closure of all schools in the area as a precautionary measure.

An evacuation plan has been put in place in view of the intermittent shelling and firing along LoC, the officer had said.

The shelling has affected five-six hamlets along the LoC including Sheri Makeri, Namakdali and Khamba since Wednesday night.

As many as 27 families have been affected due to the shelling in which many houses, and a school, have been damaged partially or severely, he said.

More than 40 farm animals are also reported killed in the firing, he added.

A woman, identified as Akhtar Bi, was killed in Pukharni village on Wednesday night. Her injured husband, 40-year-old Mohammad Haneef, has been given a compensation of Rs 1 lakh.

Another villager also received minor injuries.

On May 11, Pakistan had summoned India's deputy high commissioner in Islamabad to "condemn" the alleged ceasefire violation by India along the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that killed a man and injured three others.

Jammu & Kashmir Police Bust Lashkar Module, SPO & a former Territorial Army personnel Among 7 Arrested....

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on saturday claimed to have busted a module of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which had been trying to revive militancy in the Chenab valley, with the arrest of seven persons, including an SPO and a former Territorial Army personnel.

The module was working to revive militancy in the Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Jammu Zone S D S Jamwal told reporters here that the arrests were made by a special investigation team (SIT) formed after the attack on a police post in Doda on May 8, in which one special police officer (SPO) was killed and another injured.
Giving details, the IGP said that based on intelligence inputs the SIT had picked up some suspects and subsequently apprehended Abdul Rashid Harga alias Abdullah, a resident of Tanta.

Rashid had been an active member of LeT between 2001 and 2008 and had later surrendered. He was again arrested in 2013 and was released on bail in 2016.

"After sustained interrogation, Rashid confessed to his involvement in the (Doda) firing incident and disclosed the names of his two associates -- his younger brother Showket Ali and Akthar Magary of Tanta," the IGP said.
Following their interrogation, four more persons -- Bashir Ahmed, who was earlier part of Territorial Army, his nephew and SPO Altaf Ahmed, Shafqat Hussain and Hafiz -- were arrested.

An AK-47 rifle and three magazines and ammunition have been recovered from them, the IGP said.

He said that Rashid had been in contact with Bashir Ahmed of Bangraw-Gandoh, who was earlier working in the 139 Territorial Army Battalion in Thathri.
Bashir had asked his nephew Altaf Ahmed, who was working as an SPO inthe police department in Doda district, to arrange a weapon.

The SPO had then stolen one AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the district police line in January. A case in connection with the weapon theft was registered at Doda police station. The IGP claimed that Rashid was in direct communication with his Pakistani handler, Mohd Amin alais Khubeb alais Haroon alais Pinna of the LeT.

He said that Rashid, Akhtar and Shokat, on the direction of Khubeb, had been enticing youths of Tanta area to join the militancy.
The police officer said that Rashid had been regularly conducting meetings in various areas of the Chenab Valley and motivating former militants and those who had surrendered...

HIGHLIGHTS

  • About 2,000 boys and girls from Kashmir lined up at Bakshi Stadium on Saturday.
  • They had come for the physical endurance test (PET) for the post of sub-inspectors in J&K police.
  • Youths from the Valley far outnumbered their counterparts from the Jammu region.
SRINAGAR: Four days after Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz was abducted and shot by Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Shopian district to serve as a warning to Kashmiri youths aspiring to join the security forces, about 2,000 boys and girls from the Valley lined up at Bakshi Stadium here on Saturday.

All of them had come for the physical endurance test (PET) and physical standard test (PST) for the post of sub-inspectors in J&K police.

Various terrorist groups have repeatedly warned Kashmiri youths against joining the security forces by issuing threatening videos from time to time.

However, youths from the Valley not only ignored these threats by lining up for posts in J&K police but they far outnumbered their counterparts from the Jammu region. A total of 67,218 candidates have applied for 698 posts of sub-inspector.

Of them, 35,722 are from Kashmir while 31,496 from the Jammu region.

With over 6,000 Kashmiri girls turning up for physical tests for recruitment as police sub-inspectors, J&K DGP S P Vaid told TOI: "Dozens of Kashmiri girls broke all the shackles of a conservative society and participated in the recruitment drive."

Nusrat Jan, a candidate from downtown Srinagar, said she wanted to help local women. "I have seen women facing very bad times due to militancy in Kashmir, which needs to be addressed," she added.

Mohammad Rafiq Bhat, a science graduate from old Srinagar, said he was aware that a cop in the Valley had to live under a constant threat from the terrorists.

"But I am ready to face the menace of militancy. They (militants) are not on the right path and proper treatment is required to treat this disease," he said.

Another aspirant, Rubeena Akthar of Srinagar, said she hoped that a job in J&K police would help her "deal with the vices that are ailing our society...in Kashmir".

"I will be lucky if I get a job in the police. One commands respect in the society," said aspirant Farzana.

The first phase of the physical endurance and standard tests started on Saturday with applicants from the Valley, a spokesman of the J&K police said. The exercise will take place in the other districts subsequently.

When Indian was under British Gandhi used to encourage youth to Join British Army and fight world war- according to him- We would need a well trained army to defend ourselves once self rule is achieved- We should be careful of these leeches and only use them for police duties- Earlier under Dogras these scums weren't even allowed to join Army-
