The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, paid his respects to soldiers and officers of the Indian Army who were martyred in the Kargil conflict of 1999 at the Chinar Corps (15 Corps) War Memorial in Srinagar today (July 26, 2019), on the 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas. This is the first visit of the President to Srinagar and to the Valley. On earlier visits to Jammu and Kashmir, he had visited the Ladakh and Jammu regions. The President was scheduled to visit the Kargil War Memorial in Dras this morning, but the visit was called off due to inclement weather. Conditions were not suitable for air travel from Srinagar to Dras.

Indian Army tests newly devised “Integrated Battle Groups” or IBG in a massive war game code named “Sindhu Sudarshan-VII” currently undergoing in the Thar desert of Rajasthan. The military exercise by Army’s Sudarshan Chakra Corps, which is also known as 21 Corps or Strike Corps employs 40,000 troops, 700 X ‘Armoured’or ‘A’Vehicles, 300 X Guns in day night and air land battle exercise. The magnificent #BeatingRetreat officially denotes the end of Republic Day festivities. It is conducted on the evening of 29 January, the third day after the Republic Day. It is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the #IndianArmy, #IndianNavy and #IndianAirForce, and pipe bands from the Army, plus from 2016 a mass formation of bands of the Central Armed Police Forces and the Delhi Police. The venue is Raisina Hills and an adjacent square, Vijay Chowk, flanked by the north and south block of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, towards the end of Rajpath.
